Do you tend to clothes shop online or in store? (for yourself) I am seeing some things that I would like to buy with Christmas money, and it looks great in the pictures/on the model, but I rarely shop for clothes online unless it's for the girls. I worry about things fitting right, then if not having to deal with the hassle of returning the items.
How do you successfully shop online for yourself?

I do a lot of online shopping for myself. I only use sites with free returns or returns to store, if there is a local one. I can rarely go out to shop without DD so it is easier to buy a bunch online and return what doesn't work.

@Bao: to successfully shop online i only buy from stores where i already know my size in that clothing line. For instance I have several work shirts from H&M so I know my size in shirts from them

I shop online mostly with brands I know I like/know my size, or else only if they have free shipping/returns.
I order all my maternity clothes online because hardly any stores carry maternity in stores! It's frustrating.

Another one who only does it if they have free return shipping or occasionally if I can return to a physical store- it's easier to bring the kids and make a return than try on and pick out stuff.
But like @Mrs. Pen: most of my maternity shopping was online since the in store options were terrible.

I almost exclusively shop online. Like the others said, I generally shop from stores that I have experience with and am more familiar with the fit. Otherwise, I read through the reviews (if there are any) and look to see how they could apply to my choosing a size/if something is said that leads me away from buying it, etc. I also only order from places with free returns/shipping or with a store nearby that I can take it back to. At this point I've become pretty good at looking at pictures/descriptions and having a good idea if it will fit, etc.

As has been mentioned, I know what brands and sizes work, I also know what cuts work on my body type, which is the important part of it. For example, I know that I look best in pants that are cut for "curves" so I look for those kinds of descriptions in brands I am not as familiar with. I do tend to take at least a dry run to try a bunch of things on if my size or lifestyle changes a lot though. And I am very gentle on myself if I make a mistake! I have to try everything on these days.

I also tend to shop more at online places that include a pre-paid return label with your order, which makes it super easy to return things by mail. Nordstrom and ASOS do this.
