My 13th month old is pretty much potty training herself first she wouldnt poop in her diaper so we got her a potty seat which goes on our toilet. but now she also wont pee in the diaper. She rarely pees in her diaper and her daycare asked me if I am bothered by this? I put her on the toilet regularly at home and she pees & poops but at daycare they don't put her on the toilet. She drinks plenty of water and eats lots of fresh fruits and veggies daily

I would call that a blessing. However, you don't want her to hold it at daycare. Can they not make arrangements to have her taken to a potty at regular intervals? When I potty trained C they didn't have potties in his classroom (they didn't expect it in that classroom but the one above that) so at regular intervals he would be taken by either a floater teacher or the director to a potty.

@pelikila: I can certainly ask them to do this, I dont know how it would work though since they dont have potties in her class either. I will ask about it

That's amazing. Do you know if the daycare supports potty training? I wonder if it's because she's still considered young for toilet training that the teachers in her class won't take her to the toilet? Does your LO communicate somehow when she needs to go?

@Freckles: thanks! Yeah they told me she is the youngest they have seen to do this. sometimes she will pee a teeny bit in her diaper but never poops. Unfortunately she doesn't communicate if she needs to pee so there is no way to tell at this point

When does she move up to the next room? I know starting around 16-18 months when they move up to the "toddler" room, there is a toilet in the class.

@Mrsbells: C was most often taken to the potty the teachers used and he learned to use a big potty at daycare simply because it was the closest and less disruptive multiple times a day than taking him to the transition class where the little potties are. Yes, it meant sometimes if he didn't give them enough notice and they had to wait until another teacher could come get him there was an accident but it worked out overall really well.
ETA: maybe have them take her every 2 to 2.5 hours, give her 5 minutes to try to go. If nothing happens, take her back to her classroom and try again later.

@T.H.O.U.: they move them up based on how well she can walk. right now she has only been walking a few weeks and still unsteady so I think it will be at least another 2-3 months

Don't they have low toilets in their center? They do at my son's daycare facility.

Girls can be so susceptible to UTIs at this age if they get into holding patterns. Schools can be awful at reinforcing this. (Rigid break times, etc.) Why start such a terrible habit? I would be bothered by them *not* taking her to the toilet. If she regresses a little bit and starts peeing in her diaper, then it is not a big deal, but if she is on board with the potty, then they should get on board!

I would insist that they take her to use the potty if she is holding it or else she may get a UTI.

@looch: In the infant class I dont believe they do have them, but I havent checked to be honest. I didnt expect to be even thinking about potty training this early
@MungBean: I honestly cant take any of the credit, this is just something she started doing on her own. I think it started with her having occasional constpiation where she would hold it in so I would have to hold her over the toilet for a while...
@Andrea: @Espion: Thanks I hadnt even thought of UTI's... I think I will speak to them about this next week and have them start taking her to the toilet every few hours.
