LO came down with a sudden fever, her first is 15 months.
I resisted medicine until she was 102.4 rectal/ 103.2 temporal. At that point I gave her motrin and put her to bed. She doesn't have any other obvious signs of illness, except maybe a runny nose and pooping more than usual.
She sleeps for crap and waking her up will mean a doozy of a night but could her fever go really high without me being able to notice? Should I wake her to take her temperature later in the night or just trust that she'll let us know if she feels worse?

I would feel her forehead and see if she's cooled to the touch, if she seems the same or warmer I'd check then let her hang in a diaper for a while. A Luke warm bath, lots of fluids, Motrin and snuggles all help. If the Motrin doesn't help the fever you may call the on call ped but they will likely tell you similar to what I just did unless it spikes and you need to go in.

I wouldn't wake her. If she is feeling crappy or is in need of more Motrin she will wake you up, believe me I've been there.

I wouldn't wake her up either. She will wake up if her fever goes up. We just dealt with a really high random fever the other week. DS let me know when he needed more medicine!

Mine always woke me up when he started feeling worse. I'd leave her, but continue to check on her and feel her head.

I can't believe how nervous this fever is making me. She has respiratory issues so I have been in the ER with her oxygen levels dropping and I felt more calm there than I did last night when she went over 102.
I'm sure I took her temp more than needed- her poor, poor bum. I will try to restrain myself today. -
@lizzywiz: We've been through several fevers in the past year and a half, it's never easy! I still very clearly remember the first fever, I was so nervous I slept with him the whole weekend. I'm still always on edge until the fever breaks. Hope she's feeling better soon!

@lizzywiz: oh the first fever is scary! I totally understand! J was 8 weeks and had a reaction to his immunizations, we ended up in the ER so I know how scary it can be!! How is she today?

@babyjmama: her fever is hovering around 103 without medicine and a hundred and one with medicine. She is super cranky and restless, but still eating and drinking so I'm trying not to worry too much.

Don't wake her. It's better for her to get her rest and let her body try to fight it off. She'll wake up if she's feeling miserable, at which point you can take her temp, give her water, and give her more motrin or tylenol. I've felt my daughter in the night and she'll be burning up, but the next morning she'll have sweated out the fever and be doing much better. It's amazing what their little bodies can do!
