I think about as siblings grow up and become adults, nobody thinks anymore about whether their names match or go together?
Some people veto names because it's too opposite of a style than their other child and I think that's so weird. I am going to name my next kid a name I love regardless of whether it's a different style than my sons name.
Are you going to gives your kids names that all go together?

my younger brother and i have korean names that have the same first syllable... we hated it growing up.
i did mention a girl's name to DH the other day and he really liked it and said it also starts with the same letter/first syllable as the name we've picked out for DS! so i guess time will tell on what we decide!

@autumnlove: We considered that. I actually don't want to be matchy. Our top name for a boy was Asher and top name for a girl was/is Adelaide! I was like oh shoot. They totally match haha. We chose Jacobi so we can still have Adelaide next lol

I don't think they have to. Each child is an individual of their own. If it happens to "match", cool, but it doesn't make the name less awesome if they don't.

Our girls have names with the same first letter. I actually find it to be really cheesy, but we like both names, so, whatever.

I think they usually end up going well together since parents usually like similar names, you know? It's not random people naming the baby, it's the same two parents who still have the same tastes a few years later. So I'm not concerned about that.
But I would be concerned if they match too much. I love the name Chase, and I love the name Grace, and at some point I realized that it will have to be one or the other, definitely not both!

I don't really like matchy matchy, or everyone having the same first initial, but I don't think it matters once they grow up anyways. I do like names that kind of flow nicely, though. Or are all classic or all unique. But I agree with @Foodnerd81; people are typically drawn to the same types of names, so they and up "going."

I don't think they have to "match" but I do find it odd when I meet siblings whose names are totally different styles. Like having a son names John and then having a daughter named Sunshine. That would be strange to me.

I dont care if they match or not.. but we sort of gave our daughter a name that is used mostly as a nick name. I also pointed out that DH and I never ever go by our full names his nick name is 3 letters long and mine is 4. Our dog also has a 4 letter long name ;-).
So it would be a littttle weird if we gave our next little a name with 7+ letters in it?!
So we will probably just pick another short name.

My sister, myself and my mom have names that being with "M" and they are all Japanese. Needless to say my dad mixes our names so much that we know who he's talking about even if he says the wrong name
So far the names we have picked out for any future kids do not match with each other. It's not really a coincidence - I just happen to like those names!

I don't care if they match or mismatch... I would choose names based on how I like them. If they are nothing alike, it wouldn't matter to me, but I guess if they were TOO matchy, I wouldn't choose them.
I did/do like Vivian and Evelyn for girl twins names, though... and that's as matchy as I would get. None of this "J" business like 19 Kids and Counting.

My name doesn't match my siblings. Well my brother and I have the same first initial, but that wasn't on purpose. My sister's name doesn't match.

i'm not into super matchy names- timmy & tammy, oliver & olivia, michael & michaela, names like that. but to each their own. i think starting with the same letter isn't weird unless it turns into a diggar kind of situation where you have a million kids with names starting with a certain letter & they just start sounding like you're trying to hard to think of another name that starts with that letter. i think names should complement each other & sound nicely when you say all the names in your family, i wouldn't name my child a name that is super matchy with my own name or DH's name. the names we like, i think, sound nice together, but don't sound alike.

Matching I cringe at: Brian & Brittany..Lucy & Leroy.
I also don't like when the names are from diffrent periods.
I like Jack and Claire, vs Bruce & Sawyer.
Trendy with trendy, older with older, etc.

I like names that are the same style and prefer classic names. Our DD is Charlotte and a sibling will likely be Audrey or Franklin, both classic names also, IMO.
I dont necessarily like when they all start with the same letter or all rhyme... that's a little much for me.

We plan on having one more, and luckily, I'm pretty sure I don't like any other names that start with R.

Nope. I'm not going to go out of my way to make them match. But I don't really care if other people's names do. I don't think there's a "should" or "shouldn't" (unless you're naming your kids like, Ren and Stimpy or something purposefully weird, that's maybe a shouldn't).
But our girl name isn't anywhere close to our boy name, so we still have that if we decide for a 2nd and end up having a girl. There are lots of boy names on our short list that also aren't anywhere close to our chosen boy name for our first. So I think we're good

As a mismatched sibling, I always felt left out! My sister is Kim, my brother is Jim, I am Annie. It wasn't done intentionally by my parents, but I do take this in consideration when thinking of siblings names. If anything, I don't want them to kind of match. However, we have ended up picking out two names with double letters. My daughter's name is Quinn and my son's name is Bennett, so my DH and I keep joking that the third baby would need three letters that are duplicates. Perhaps, JJaammes or Heennryy or something like that. HA!

I think the style of name should sound good together, but they don't have to match. I don't love super matchy names in theory, but my sister and I have very matchy names and it has never bothered me. I'm the oldest, though--I think it was harder for her coming afterward and having the same teachers, etc.

I feel like they need to match to a certain degree.
For example, my LO's name is Willa. It is a unique, old fashioned name. It would be weird to me if we named her brother Brandon. Although it is a great name, it is more contemporary and very popular and I don't think they go well together at all!

we may end up using the same first letter but not intentionally, it just so happens that all the names we like the best start with the same letter. But I dont think names have to match, its a bit much when all the siblings have names like joseph, josephina, joselina etc

I don't think we'll purposefully try to have matching names, but we will probably have a lot of the same criteria for a name so they might end up somewhat similar in the end.

I think names should match sort of. Like, if my first daughter's name is Mary, I think it would be odd to name a second daughter Lexi, or something exotic.

I'm a big fan of subtly matching names. Like no one would know that our girls' names match without thinking about it for a while. They match only with the -ia at the end of the first name and with respect to the era that the name was popular. And if you were really thinking about it, you might realize that they are both great flapper names

@Mrs. Jacks: I always thought your daughters names matched because of the era But not in a bad way. I do like era matching, I just don't think it should deter someone from choosing a different name.
