My baby is 9 weeks today. We have a good night sleep schedule, but eating isn't occurring at set times. It's always 6-8 hours between feedings, so every time he goes over six hours the schedule changes.

I didn't try to get onto a schedule until 4 months or so. Until then, routine/schedule didn't seem to matter all that much!

@Mrs. Polish: Does your LO have any weight issues? If not, I would go with eating on demand, like what you are doing. However, if your LO is not gaining weight, then I would recomment getting on an eating pattern. My LO was born at 4 lbs 8 ozs and left the hospital weighing less than that, so we had to feed him every 3 hours so he could gain weight.

@littlek: no weight issues at all. He's stuck at 50%tile since birth.
@winniebee: ok, that makes me feel better. I'm a routine kind of person so I'm struggling now.

@Mrs. Polish: I struggled w/ that too. My son at that point ate every 2-3 hours and then maybe around 3-4 months stretched to always 3. I stuck with eat, play, sleep until he was around 4 months old because that's when the 30 min. catnap started. Then a real schedule around 5 months when he was on 3 naps a day and had a more consistent night schedule.

@Mrs. Polish: I wouldn't! I agree with the sentiment that adults aren't hungry at the same intervals, so why would babies be. Especially that young Once my LO hit 4 months I started feeding if he "asked" otherwise offering around 3 hours.
