@Ra: Oh yeah, are you a shitty mom is your kid actually WANTS the meds? Xander will point to the medicine dropper and suck on them like candy...

Oh the list i could make....
- at 13m, her pacifier is her most favorite thing in the world and i have no intention of taking it away any time soon
- there is an entire shelf in our pantry dedicated to yellow gerber boxes
- this week she's pretty much surviving on noodles and cheese curls
- I dont wash clothes before she wears them
- what's organic? by scientific definition, everything we eat is organic material
- Pet smart is our favorite aquarium

@Mrs. Blue: I can't wait till nap time and that is just on the weekends.

@Mrs. Blue: M will not watch tv. I'm home with her right now because she has croup and I'm losing my mind. I've tried 4 different shows and only had minimal success with one of them: Barney. FML.

@Chillybear: Haha. Sometimes I take B on "field trips" to the Humane Society.

@lawbee11: R didn't really get into tv till about 15-16months.

@Mrs. Blue: Totally hear you about nap time! Xander goes to daycare five days a week and I only really am in charge of him for most of Saturday (Hubs is in charge on Sundays), and I'm always counting down the minutes to nap time!!! And it's our ONE full day together! I can't imagine doing it every day!

I am pretty sure our children will grow up just fine even if we're not perfect or crunchy enough!

@Chillybear: my 2 y/o still has her wubbanub for nap and bed. Whatever works!! Lol

@Smurfette: does she ask for Minnie or get excited when she sees her? There is something about Minnie and my lo. She is obsessed!!
I wasn't looking and my kid, who was high on Halloween candy, fell off the bed and broke her collarbone.
Since then: Frozen 24/7, popsicles and cookies after dinner and more Halloween candy.
-We eat at Chick-Fil-A. Sometimes once a week. I let my kid play in their play area, too!!!
-I once bought organic lettuce by accident. That's the one and only time we've eaten organic.
-I use disposable diapers and disposable wipes and fed my kid formula and jar baby food.

Woahh brownie brittle sounds awesome!
I love this post, not because I do all the same things, but because I don't think people should feel bad or like they need to lie because they aren't doing the same parenting things as someone else. As long as your kid is happy and isn't being abused, to each their own!
I don't give my kid candy or juice and super limit fried foods, but that is my perogative and most of my friends are much more lax - I don't judge their food choices lol. I also have friends who hate plastic/battery toys and those are my daughter's favorite so that is what most of her toys are
and I have no qualms about letting her watch a moderate amount of tv. We also don't wash clothes before she wears them, and *gasp* most of her stuff is second hand. I never let my daughter CIO, but I know that works great for some other LOs. Kids aren't cookie cutter so there isn't a one size fits all approach
If I do something and then feel guilty about it, I try and find out why - if it is just because of some other moms doing something different I don't think that's a good reason to feel guilty haha.

@Mrs. Blue: nap time is my favorite part of the day. And when dh gets home... because then I'm off duty for a little while.

@Adira: Ahaha medicine time before bed when she's teething is my daughter's FAVORITE, she gets so excited, drops everything and runs across the room to get her ibuprofen XD
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@mediagirl: Yes! She walks in the house from day care and asks for Minnie! Then when she sees her on the screen she gets so excited. We got her a big stuffed Minnie doll and her face was priceless when she saw it. DH and I melted. I bought her a necklace for $1 at Target and it the only jewelry she will wear.

Oh mama! A big AMEN, and a hug for you.
I often wonder how some moms seem so "together". I WAH, and the days I'm not working, I find myself using my phone A LOT in front of the baby. I always feel shitty for that one.
I love my baby so much, but I subscribe to a REALISTIC way of raising my kid. We try to do our best, here, and I think that's what matters.
In my intro post, I shared that I've dropped my phone on baby's face while BFing. MOM OF THE YEAR!
I use a pacifier. I use formula ... and sometimes, I just rinse bottles between uses, because I'm lazy. I don't wash clothes before she wears them, either.
BUT, I'm a damn good mom. I love her with my whole heart. Everything I do is centered around ensuring she's safe and happy. If she eats a dust bunny every now and then, oh well! Girl's gotta learn!
You're an awesome mom!

@Smurfette: that is so awesome. We got her some pull-ups the other day. Some of them have Minnie on them. She is obsessed. I don't know what we're going to do when we run through all of the Minnie ones and only have Ariel or Doc McStuffins left.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Oh, here are some other reasons I'm shitty:
- I let Xander sleep with a blanket even though he used to wrapped it around his head at night (now he sleeps with THREE)
- I fed him jarred baby food and he still eats a ton of pouches because I'm too lazy to get fruit he might not eat and make veggies he might not eat and he actually WILL eat the pouches - they're our go-to snack!
- Xander's latest words are "touch down," "field goal", and "TV" (although not pronounced correctly)

@Ra: you know, I differ with you on a ton of the points you listed (and I really don't consider myself to be that crunchy), but I ALWAYS appreciate reading your comments. So we both must be doing something right, right?!.

@fairy: Ha! Same here. Damn kiddo, it's JUST ibuprofen ... slow your roll!

-LO gets iPad for a half hour most nights. Last night, he got an hour because Peapod delivered groceries
-eats a lot of mac & cheese, chicken nuggets
-loves my McD's orange drink
-uses plastic toys
-uses Johnson & Johnson bath products
-disposable diapers and wipes
Being pregnant right now, I feel like my parenting and general life has been exhausting. If LO gets a little more Netflix, not a big deal to me.

So much
and respect for every single person on this thread.
- H's paci is her favorite toy ever and I will not be taking it away from her anytime soon.
- She had raisins for dinner last night and steals my french fries.
- She regularly watches songs on YouTube in the car when we need to calm her down (her favorite is Little Tea Pot, but she also like CCR).
- I don't wash her clothes before she wears them.
- Sometimes I let her play with her toys in the living room while I get ready in the morning because Mama needs a break and it's much easier to get ready when she's not hanging off my legs.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@mediagirl: ha! We buy Huggies at Costco and they have Mickey and Minnie on them. She loves to point to them when she is just in her diaper. Minnie is now part of the animals that have to be in the crib with her at night.

I cannot express how much I
this! I have been feeling guilty about how much TV my nearly 2 year old has gotten, but I am getting over it. I am 34 weeks pregnant and tired. If a TV show gets me a short nap, I think I am going to go for it.

Love this post!
-I forgot to pack J lunch last week so I fed him a Lean Cuisine.
-We watch Epic every single effing night. No joke.
-He eats peanut butter toast more often than I care to admit because I don't know what to feed him.
-DH gives him sips of sweet tea, it's their "special boy thing that mom isn't supposed to know about"
-I am another Motrin addict
-The whole bottom shelf of my pantry is full of stuff that I don't mind if LO plays with while I cook. Yeeap he's playing with a package of Ramen everyday.
Speaking of dropping stuff on your baby.. when LO was a few WEEKS old, we went for our first family walk. It was also my first time using the ring sling and I was so proud so I took a picture of us and then was trying to upload it to Instagram while walking through the woods and I fell flat on my face. Smooshing LO. He didn't even cry but I felt like a dick.

We have dvd headrests in my car and I let my 2 yr old watch Thomas (or whatever he wants) everyday on the way to daycare, on the way home, running errands, etc.
I have a laundry list of other things, but most have been mentioned above!
this thread!

SO. MUCH. SCREENTIME.
Seriously. But I'm pretty sure my kid is a genius regardless. We read plenty of books too.

Wow! It's like you were in my head!!! I've often thought the same. No organic at my house and we have way too many plastic electronic toys. DS watches WAY too much TV. It's also probably sad that he recognizes Burger King because that is where he gets ice cream comes with grandma. His favorite nuggets are from Wendy's - he can almost eat a 10 count box. His bedtime is late by HB standards - I aim for 8:30 or 9 but some nights (like last night) it was 10. What can I say? He fights sleep! But he is a healthy and happy boy and that's what matters most!

It's interesting though how people online will judge for not doing "crunchy" enough things but in real life I get more looks when I say that I'm still breastfeeding my 17 month old or that I nurse her to sleep for every nap/bedtime. It's lose-lose!

@MrsTiz: I LOLed at the Lean Cuisine! That's awesome! And, you poor thing falling with babe. And, you're totally not a dick!

@Mamasig: We are late bedtimers too!
Usually between 9 and 10 but when she was an infant she would never go to sleep before 11 and would sleep tool 11am or noon!

@Ra: I just found the brownie brittle on Peapod. It's already in the cart for the next order. Must eat it!
pomegranate / 3375 posts
@fairy: I was thinking this EXACT same thing. Most people in my life think I'm a f*cking granola bar. But, my "crunchy" mom friends will cringe because I don't use a seat cover at the park (the horror), or that we use disposables at night. Ummm, it was not my favorite thing when babe would wake up covered in pee. But, meh, judge away!
