Some of you know that I'm on my own this weekend. And most of you know that the prospect terrifies me, since I'm rarely taking care of both girls alone.
But this morning I was able to wake up, take a shower, do two loads of laundry, take the dog out and clean the bathroom all before anyone woke up.
So far, not a bad gig! It just requires some creative scheduling 
Some of you probably do this a lot more than I do. Please share your tips with me so the rest of the weekend goes as smoothly!

WTG! I love days like that - I feel like I can conquer the world.. and the next day, she'll put me back in my place LOL

Sounds like you are doing awesome! For me it's all about thinking ahead like you are doing. Preempting meltdowns that are hard to deal with solo. Having a plan for what we're eating, what we're going to do, etc helps me a lot. And then adopting a zen attitude for when things don't go as planned and the meltdown happens anyway

I put books in every room. When LO starts to get bored with whatever he's doing, I say "Let's read a book!" and then we do. That gives me 1) a break and 2) a chance to figure out what to do next. It also avoids a break in the action, which is typically when crankiness sets in!

@T-Mom: Yes, I feel a little terrified about dinner for tonight. I have Epicurious out now and am trying to figure out what we can eat without going to the store. I wish peach cobbler could be dinner, but I think that would fall under a single parenting fail
@honeybear: Great suggestion. We have books in a couple of places, but I can easily expand to other spots.

Complicating this is that Mr. Jacks and I made a bet about how clean I could get and keep the house... So we're trying to do all of this neatly. I guess we've got to go out of the house this morning.

My trick is to get them out in the sun and/or a water feature. That always tires them out!!.

@mrbee: we recently got them a water table, so that seems to occupy them. And we always have the pool, but it's hard to do adequate pool safety with two, so I've been avoiding it!
We went to the children's store today and picked up a couple workbooks, some new sidewalk chalk and fresh bubbles. I think chasing bubbles is going to be our pre nap activity.
Ok, back to work. M is fussing!

Ugh, not to complain, but I was feeling really great when I got not girls down for naps. The neighbor is messing with his car alarm and woke both girls up! (it's a nice day, so I had windows open.) F me!

@LovelyPlum: blech. I should have titled this wins and fails. Right now I have two very grumpy girls. Shakes fist at neighbor!!!! I was so excited to put together a bookcase and go through their toys while they were asleep :(. Sad Jacks!

@Lemondrop; Aww! Lorelei was just doing that a few minutes ago while saying, "Enough, Lorelei. No more." Then she had it all unrolled and asked me if I thought that was enough for her to have taken. Uh... yeah.
@Mrs. Jacks; hope the rest of the day is going smoothly for you. When I'm trying to figure out what to cook without having done shopping I start with an ingredient. So, yesterday I looked up "sweet potato" in the indexes of some recipe books because I had three big ones I wanted to use up. We ended up eating spiced sweet potato fries, steamed broccoli, and pork cutlets diane. I would totally eat the dessert as a meal! Other than that, I try to plan in my head as I'm singing to Lorelei to get her down for nap or nighttime what chores need to be done so that I can be maximumly efficient after she's asleep. I also use books on cd (she'll listen on my android tablet) for Ellie when I'm doing Lorelei's bedtime routine so she stays occupied in a positive way. You are doing great! I am impressed.

Anyway. One is in bed, the other is watching a video (bad mama!) and I'm ready to collapse! I did clean the kitchen again before getting off my feet. Thank goodness there is only one more day. Cobbler will have to wait til tomorrow! Too tired!

It helped that M took a three hour nap today, so that definitely made it easier.
I didn't plan to, but it was a really nice morning, so we spruced the yard too. I'm hopeful that this bodes for a cleaner house for us during the week

As an aside, and I think it's ok to hijack my own thread, M pooped on the potty this weekend. She's only seen big sister do it, but she just marched into the bathroom, whipped off her diaper straps, sat down and said "poo poo". What a kid!
