I go every 2 years, which is the cycle my dermatologist recommended to me based on family history and her observations of my skin check. If anything changed and she recommended it, I would go more frequently.

I go every year. The first year I went the doctor removed a mole that turned out to be a basal cell carcinoma, so since then I do get nervous. They’ve removed one more mole since then that was fine. I’m a year overdue for my check because of covid. My doctor also told me at my last appointment that I only had one more and then I could quit coming but that makes me uncomfortable - a doctor didn’t send me in the first place, I went because I had a lot of moles, and I’m not comfortable just leaving them and hoping.

@CatchAFallingStar: Not really! I was more nervous when I wasn't getting them regularly that there was something I was accidentally ignoring.

Annually! My brother has advanced melanoma so I don’t mess around. Luckily I haven’t had much of concern and know by going regularly and keeping an eye on things between visits anything that does develop is likely to be caught early.

I went for the first time last year, and currently plan to go every other year. She didn’t find anything concerning which is why I’m not going to worry about going annually unless I notice something.

I also go annually—I don’t get nervous but I don’t really have family history of skin cancer. I get more nervous when my husband goes because he does (and is still not great about sunscreen 🙄)

I go quarterly because I have a history of melanoma personally as well as through my mother's side of the family. If you have confirmed melanoma, they keep a VERY close eye on you and I think the recommendation is quarterly checks for two years, and then if they don't find anything else, you drop down to checks every 6 months.
For my husband, he has no history in his family so he goes much less frequently, maybe every other year. For my children, I've only taken one of them to a derm for a suspicious mole. But I am ridiculous with their sun protection - I'm talking 4 different types of sunscreen applied daily before camp in the summer!
