Would it be a bad idea not to go to my follow-up appointment for my D&C? I'm not a doctor person, I really just am dreading idea of going to this appointment and seeing nurses and doctor as a now non-pregnant patient. I feel fine, spotting has stopped.
Thoughts?

I would go, but I'm a nurse. If you end up having complications later 1) you will probably regret not going and 2) your insurance could fight paying for it

I would probably go even though I know how much of a pain it is.
I am dreading going back to the office next week for the same reasons. I just don't want to face the doctor and nurses and don't want to be with a bunch of pregnant people.

I would go as well. Had a friend in a scary situation where they didn't get everything out during the D&C, had stopped bleeding, but she had some pretty bad complications later. Go just to be sure everything is ok. I know it's tough, but go just so that everything looks to be in working order for the future.

@runnerd: Sorry you had to go through all of this, I dont know much about this from experience but I agree with @Emsmems: that its probably best to go just for peace of mind later

I would go too. I also dreaded that appointment but I'm glad I went because we got to talk about it and next steps etc. I had questions and it just made me feel better.

Please do go get checked out. I know how tough it is but it will be worth it. Not getting checked out could negatively affect you ability to conceive in the future.

I can understand that - unless they need to check you, can you just speak to your doctor over the phone?

It's a sucky appointment, but I think it's important to go. Mine was made worse because they didn't have that our delivery was a still born one and the first thing the nurse asked me was if I was breast or bottle feeding. I said excuse me! And then the nurse asked again. She went white when I said I had a miscarriage delivery.

I highly recommend going to that appt. I was holding back tears in the waiting room, but you'll get more direction on when to start trying again. Mine actually said that it looked like I was ovulating (based on CM) and recommended we gone home and start trying that night. Plus, there could be complications and you'll want to make sure you're healing properly. The doctor will want to check your emotional state too...not just physical.

I understand why you don't want to go- after my m/c I had to get blood work done every week for 2 months because it took FOREVER for the hcg to leave my system. But, I def would go. You never know what could happen and it's always better to be safe.

@Jennimac: when I had one of my post-d&c blood draws, the receptionist saw the paperwork and said "oh it's positive, congratulations!" I was like....no.

You probably should go, buy mine was worth skipping. I talked to the doctor for less than 5 minutes

I would go to make sure everything is okay. Chances are, it will be a super short appointment and you'll be out of there in no time.

I would go. It is a sucky appointment, I know how badly I wanted to skip my follow ups post-MC but you would hate to have complications and have this rough patch carry out even longer. Good luck, I hope everything looks good:)

@lilteacherbee: I know, it sucks!!!!!!! People should double check things before they talk.
@runnerd: see if you can get an early morning appointment. My office sees pregnant women in the afternoon and my dr made sure I was one of the very first appointment so I didn't have to deal with that.

@runnerd: 1. I am sorry for your loss. Miscarriages are awful!
2. This is a very good question. I wouldn't want to go either but...
here's the (sad) reason I would go. If you don't go, you get kind of a black mark on your record in that office as a non-compliant patient. Not a good thing if you want to go back when you are pregnant again in the future.
Plus all the other good points that were made about.
I hope you have time to mourn and heal. And I also hope you go to your follow up appointment.

I dreaded mine too but she ended up doing a pelvic exam at my file up to make sure everything was fine.
I completely understand how you feel... but do it for your future babies.
