I sleep on my belly and have had a couple clogged ducts but not sure they are in relation to each other.

I read somewhere that lying on your stomach and thus putting extra pressure on your breasts can increase your chances of clogged ducts. Sorry @Smurfette!
I sleep on my side or back and haven't had an issue with clogged ducts yet. (5 months pp)

The best position for me for preventing them was sleeping on my back, or on my side and slightly tilting back so that there is no pressure on the chest. I'm a natural side sleeper, but one time after sleeping that way with some pressure on my breast, I did get a clogged duct. Best is to avoid any pressure on the chest if you are prone to the clogs.

@T-Mom: That's what happened to me the other night. I slept on my side and started feeling twinges in my breast. Woke up the next morning to a super tender/hard boob that took 3 pumping sessions with intense massaging and heat to unclog. No bueno! I slept at a slant last night, almost sitting up to help make sure I don't get another clogged duct.

I would try to avoid putting any pressure on your chest at least in the first month or two!

@Alivoo01: it's especially hard in the early days when your supply is still regulating. Hopefully things will get better so you won't have to do that as much in the future!

I'm a stomach sleeper and I've only had clogged duct once and it was right after my milk came in during the first week PP.

The only time I got a plugged duct was the one time I slept on my stomach. Could have been a coincidence but I'm still being cautious and sleeping on my side.

Totally! I slept on my back for at least the first 5 months. Whenever I slept on my side, I got a plugged duct. Bonus: no leaking!
