Apparently Rembrandt discontinued their Gentle White, SLS free toothpaste! I've been using it for years!
What do you use? Do you like it? I'm researching some online but there's nothing like a personal recommendation.
I don't care if it's natural or whatever. I want it to be minty fresh and SLS free!

Ugh, looking for the same! I have an SLS allergy that gives me canker sores when I use toothpaste that contains it.

@Boheme: Yes! I used to get awful canker sores! Since switching to SLS free, I only get them now in times of dire stress (like with E's CVS a couple years ago) or if i eat a TON of citrus fruit. I find that plain white vinegar kills them the fastest when you get them, though.
I'm leaning towards the Tom's of Maine's Clean & Gentle, but you can only buy it (for a decent price) from their website....but I also need toddler training toothpaste. I think their "Botanically Bright" one is really foamy and I'm just not used to foaming toothpaste anymore. It makes me gag now! I just really liked the Rembrandt one.

I think Sensodyne is SLS free...but it contains saccharin...I might just switch to baking soda!

I use Sensodyne Whitening. I reduce my canker sore outbreaks by at least 50% when I avoid SLS in toothpaste!

@looch: Gag! The texture of baking soda gets me. seems weird that a toothpaste would contain a sugar....counterproductive. In fact, baking soda reminds me of an experiment in grade school where we had to make our own toothpastes. Mint oils and baking soda. Yuck. The winner was chocolate

@blackbird: they really are the worst. I have so many triggers that it's impossible to avoid them completely, but I do my best because they totally suck.

@Synchronicity: I know, mine are stress and citrus foods! White vinegar helps kill them the fastest and decreases their longevity, though. Burns like a B

@blackbird: I have never tried vinegar! I can imagine that it doesn't feel great, but neither does a canker the size of a dime hanging out in my mouth for three weeks

@looch: Yeah, baking soda is super cheap!
@Synchronicity: No but it works GREAT! put it on a q-tip, then hold it over the canker sore for a couple minutes. They heal a lot faster after you do that for a couple days. I did an experiment once, heh. AFter 2 weeks, one of my canker sores was still there so i said screw it and killed it off within about 4-5 days. Thankfully the mouth is the fastest healing organ on your body

we were soooo upset over the discontinuation of Rembrandt Canker Sore and then Gentle White too! We switched to Sensodyne.

The only SLS free toothpaste I can find in my area is Biotene. It's actually for dry mouth, but I like it.

Tom's of Maine's Clean & Gentle variety is SLS free and super minty. Burt's Bees also makes an SLS free toothpaste, but, I've only seen it online, not in physical stores. Verve, Biotene and Sensodyne also have some SLS free varieties but I think they're super sweetned.
A lot of the more "crunchy" brands are also SLS free, but, come in flavors like fennel or cinnamon instead of minty.

@lilyofthewest: Have you tried the Tom's? Do you like it? That's what i'm leaning towards. Fennel and cinnamon do not sound refreshing to me!

I don't use it regularly (it is my partner who can't do SLS, not me), but, I recall it being pretty much like the other Tom's ones. Which is to say, intensely minty, and barely or not at all sweetened.

Burts bee's was my favorite but I've been having trouble finding it for a decent price. I'm not a fan of Tom's, just because I feel like my teeth don't feel as clean afterwards? Might just be me though. I'm using something that starts with an "X" now, the name escapes me, off of Amazon. It is pretty good, but it is baking soda based.

i just bought one from Young Living that's SLS free. DH gets bad canker sores and this is supposed to help.

My mom is super sensitive to SLS and she swears by the Kiss My Face toothpaste - she actually likes the children's version better, lol!

Thanks for the recommendations! The SLS free helped a ton when I switched! So I definitely am a huge proponent of it!

Wow, DH gets canker sores all the time and I never even thought something like toothpaste could be the cause. Interesting.

@blackbird: I think Tom's has SLS. Right? We use Kiss My Face brand. It's good. They make a kid's one too.
Also, I had NO idea that SLS was related to canker sores. I get them frequently. We just started using SLS-free toothpaste last month when our doctor recommended it for general health.

@Bao: I didn't connect the dots til we were on vacation and I used LO's SLS free toothpaste and had zero canker sores! I realized that if it tore up my mouth that much that it probably wasn't good on my other skin either, so I switched to a body wash without it (Dr Bronners).

DH gets canker sore too so he uses Closys. We order it on Amazon. It's minty but not as incredibly minty as conventional toothpaste. Maybe that's good--the extra dose of minty is probably more unnecessary chemicals!
