So I mostly lurk, post occasionally on various boards, but I finally was compelled to start a post because I figured someone might have good recommendations about this!

My husband, 4 1/2 month-old daughter & I live in a townhouse apartment. Up until this point the apartment manager has not allowed pets but he is in talks with other residents and the housing board to change the policy and possibly allow small dogs, cats, & other small pets! This is SO exciting for me because I have wanted a dog for such a long time. I had a Jack Russell Terrier from the time I was 5 who finally died at age 17 (we had him since he was 1!). I absolutely adored him. I would want to get a small dog & I would like it to be a rescue (there are lots of rescues near us) but I have no idea what kind to look for.

My criteria:
-Doesn't need a yard (we would take it on regular walks--so low/medium activity level?)
-Can live in a relatively small space (2-bedroom, 2-story townhouse)
-Small (under 15 lbs. full-grown)
-Tends to get along well with children--since I have Lettie, this is a MUST.
-Low/medium shedding: Lettie hasn't been around dogs for the first 4 1/2 months of her life much, just her grandparent's dog who adores her but she always gets a little sniffly around this dog (a lab who sheds a ton)

Is there such a dog? Or am I asking for a magical, non-existent unicorn dog?
