2. How do you clean it?

We run it through the dishwasher or just use really hot water and soap and run that through and that usually clears it out.
It DOES work! So much better than the bulb. I wonder if I'm sucking in her germs when I use it, though......

@mediagirl: What about the little foam piece? Do you take it off to wash by hand? I've had a little cold and I think he might have a touch of it too (as evidenced by the 2.5 hour binge nap this morning....)

@winniebee: dont you replace that sponge piece every time? I thought you did. I could be wrong...
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@LivsMama: I just googled and yes you are supposed to! I have only used it for the first time today...so I guess I replace the sponge!

@winniebee: From what Ive read, NOBODY has been able to get the snot all the way up to the sponge part, and a lot of people handwash it and air dry it to stave off bacteria (if they are using it frequently, like during a cold.) Otherwise they replace it each time or after each day

You're supposed to clean/replace the foam thing?
I have GOT to start reading directions...

@winniebee: Just curious because we have the nosefrida and the other one. The other one you put your own filter in (such as a tissue).

I've never tasted snot. I LOVE my Nosefrieda, it's the best thing ever. Even though it makes me gag after each use. LOs snot and boogies never make it past the cone-shaped part.
And yeah, you're supposed to throw out the filter and use a new one...which reminds me that I need to order some more filters.

@mrsjazz: Well, I tasted saltiness. Maybe I sucked too hard, LOL?
@livsmama: er, I just washed it really well. no sense putting in a new one if I'm just going to use it when he wakes up from his nap, right? ; )

I was actually going to get the nosefrieda but wasn't thrilled to have to buy filters for it. Then I saw the baby comfy nose that doesn't require a filter. You can just use tissue so I bought that. It's awesome. Most times I just take off the part that goes into my LO's nose and wash that with soapy hot water and let it dry and it's good to go for another round. Sorry, I know this doesn't help you answer your question about how to clean the nosefreida! Just thought I would share my experience with a similar product that was easy to clean.

Oh I forgot to say how I clean my nosefrieda. I made the mistake of letting it sit in the sink one day and the boogers/snot crusted and it was such a PITA to clean. Now I immediately rinse with super hot water and shake it to make sure all the snot remnants are gone. Then I soak it in soapy water for a bit and then rinse.

@winniebee: I have the nosefrieda and I have also tasted snot before, it was disgusting. The snot had actually not reached the foam,, but I think the air in the chamber was just snotty, if you will... I get away with not changing the foam every time but i will change it daily or after a particularly nasty one.

Hahaha I love my nose Frieda and have never tasted snot!
I just wash it with hot water and soap! Usually right after I use it!
I stopped using the foam a long time around. Realized snot never travels very high up the tube!

@winniebee: I use hot soapy water and then vinegar
I never taste snot though

That happens to me when I put too much saline in LO's nose before I suck...nasty!

We love it! Never tasted snot though We're pretty liberal on replacing the filter because the snot never makes it past the tip and she's never been sick (just gets snotty from time to time).
We just run it until super hot water/soap to clean. And you absolutely CANNOT let it sit because as someone said above, it's nearly impossible to clean!

Oooh I've never seen the tissue/baby comfy nose one before. Maybe I'll get one of those...
Right now I have a Pigeon (http://www.amazon.com/PIGEON-Cleaning-Tweezers-Pigeon-Japan/dp/B000FI0HUU). Basically they're booger tweezers. They're pretty awesome, but I think I could get more done w/ the snot suckers.

@Pink Champagne: ha ha ha my reaction was the same as yours.

I've never tasted snot. I don't think it ever goes that far up the tube. I LOVE the nosefrieda. Couldn't live without out! I wash all the pieces in hot soap water immediately after use, including the sponge. I replace the sponge every cycle. So I'll keep using the same sponge while he's sick. And then use a new sponge the next time he's sick. I bought replacement filters on Amazon. They were super cheap.

tasted snot? OMG I would have puked on the baby! I hate snot more than blood, puke, and poop all rolled into one nasty thing. I HATE snot.
I use saline and the bulb sucker because if I had suck snot... I would barf.
And sometimes when he has boogers I just wait for daddy to come home...

@Pink Champagne: me too. I've only replaced mine twice and it's been months! Yikes... But the snot never reaches very high so hopefully it's ok. I'm gonna go replace it now!
I wash it out with soap and hot water immediately after use. Made the mistake of waiting once and there was so much hardened snot in it!!
