We never had soda at home. Only for birthdays!

I wish my mother had limited us! Food/drink was basically a free for all, and I'm still suffering the consequences of it today.

Soda (particularly cherry coke) is definitely my addiction.

Limited amounts, maybe once a week? There wasn't an official rule about it, we just didn't drink it often.

@sweetchic: Same. There were no set rules about it but it certainly wasn't an every day thing. I sort of associated drinking a can of coke with an occassion like a holiday or a cook out at someone else's house so we must not have had it at home very much.

I will probably do the same. I worry that if you set really strict rules around a certain food item it gives that thing power as being a very special treat and it makes the child want it more and probably over indulge if they have the change to eat/drink it when you aren't around.

We never had it in the house so it was only special occasions. I'll let my kids have some on special occasions too, but I will try to help them make better decisions like drinking seltzer water etc.

Yes they did and I wish they hadn't. They didn't really limit any unhealthy food and though I'm not an overweight adult, I still find it incredibly hard to say no to soda and unhealthy foods. My LO will not have the same experience.

Only on special occassions, or a rare treat with Sat pizza and movie. I plan on doing the same thing.

We could order soda if we went out to eat, but we never had it in the house. And if we ordered water instead my dad would give us a dollar (it was the dollar he saved by us not ordering soda and it was to encourage us to drink water).

We never have soda in the house and won't buy it for LO either. I don't know what we'll do about ordering it in restaurants.... maybe do what my dad did. It worked for us, none of us three kids drink soda!

My parents had so much junk in the house. I remember having soda as a young child. I used to drink a bunch of it...Dr. Pepper was so addicting. I now mainly drink water with the occasional soda once in a great while.

Sidenote: I saw my 3 and 5 year old nephews drinking soda while we were visiting them and I was a little shocked that their parents would let kids that young drink that crap.

Yes, but we never really had it in the house. They never minded if I ordered it while we were out though. I rarely drink it now though--maybe a few times a year.

They let us drink however much we wanted to. I wasn't a hyper child or anything so it really didn't make me act out or anything. I actually never used to drink anything except soda or juice. Now I drink water all day. It took Weight Watchers to teach me that drinking soda all day was really unhealthy for me. When you get a limited amount of calories/points/what have you per day, you really start to use those towards actual food LOL

If/when I have a child I will limit their soda intake. It's a really expensive habit to have! And obviously unhealthy.

Nope! Since we never drank soda at home, it never occurred to us to order it at restaurants, either. It wasn't until I went to college that I started drinking Diet Cokes. There was a point when I was drinking a Diet Coke a day but I've since cut back to maybe one a week.

Unlimited amounts. I can't say that it has had a negative impact on my siblings and me though. I rarely drink it now.

We had a disgusting amount of soda. Strawberry, grape, Cactus Cooler....I can't believe how often we had it. Shirley temples, too. I'm drinking more soda now than I usually do (sprite, ginger ale, etc--settles my stomach) but I try to drink more carbonated water when I want my fix.

Did not get soda at all, with very few exceptions: when we went to eat somewhere like pizza hut I could get an orange pop. This was rare, however. My mom was always really health conscious and did not want me having sugar. I also didn't have Kool-aid or those kind of sugary drinks... just 100% juices, and milk.
