I hate baths so tubs are wasted space for me but I wouldn't want my laundry in my bathroom.

You have a nice enough shower in the master bath, right? As long as the floor will support it (not vibrate too much or whatever) and it won't be so loud that you can do laundry during nap or bedtime, I would move it. But I think making the laundry corner of the basement nicer would be a good option of having the laundry up there would be loud and disruptive.

@ValentineMommy: Same. We have both. The 2nd floor laundry trumps the tub hands down.

I have had a combo of all these things along the way and here are my thoughts.

1. Second floor laundry is insanely convenient.
2. However, I was CONSTANTLY worried that the washer would overflow, or have some sort of malfunction and water would seep through the floor, or one of the machines wouldn't be well enough supported and could come crashing through the ceiling.
3. Laundry in your master bath is really annoying. We have company stay from out of town often and they usually like to throw in a load of wash before they head home. When we had the laundry in our master bath in our old apartment, it was a pain to have people in our bedroom if they needed to do a load.
ETA: If this will be your home for the next 20 years, I assume you will eventually teach your kids to do some of their own laundry. Do you want them having to come into your room to do it?
4. I love baths. Plus, I find it MUCH easier to give our kids a bath in the master where there is more room to spread out than in their Jack n' Jill bathroom.

So in the end, I personally would vote not to move the laundry upstairs, but these are the things I think you should consider.

@Truth Bombs: funny I actually dislike giving the kids a bath in our big jetted master bath tub- it takes forever to fill up, even to the low level they need, and cleaning it with the jets it's such a pain. But we only have the one bath, the other bathroom is just a stand up shower, so that's what it is for now. But, our master bath is also small.

Just for clarification - are you talking about removing your whirlpool tub and putting the laundry in your master bath? Or removing the tub from the hall bathroom and putting the laundry there? I'm 100% for removing the tub from the hall bathroom and putting your laundry in there!

We could have had laundry in the dark cold basement. But it's in the kitchen instead. Not ideal but better than slipping on those awful stairs.

I would, if you will never use the tub (my parents never ever used their tub in any of our houses, we don't even have one in our house now). I think if you're willing to spend a little money to make it a nice/neat laundry area, it's worth it! I'd just make sure you're ok with the sound of the washer/dryer MOTN if you have them on. Otherwise, I think it's so convenient! I hate lugging laundry up and down too! I feel like I'd be better about doing laundry if it's right there!

I think it'd be weird to have the laundry room in the master bathroom.
