We have to buy 2 new sofas soon as we are moving from part-furnished to an un-furnished house. If you were going to buy new which would you choose?
(DH likes leather, I prefer fabric. I guess leather would be easier to clean spills and mess with a baby around?)

Do you have cats? They can puncture the leather very easily. I know this from experience. We have little scratches all over our couches.
But, if not, I'd go with it, cause it's easier to clean.

We have leather and love them. Easy to clean (we have both LO and a cat who sheds like crazy).

It depends, we're getting fabric in our main living room for sure. The playroom, we're undecided. We looked at a bonded leather set yesterday and I didn't like the feel of it.

I find leather cold in the winter and clammy and sticky in the summer. Not cozy at all!

@Dandelion: we don't, but we looked after SILs cats for a couple of weeks this year and they scratched the landlord's leather sofa... oops!
@IcebergMom: that's exactly how I feel! At the moment we have leather with soft throws on.

We recently switched from a micro-fiber to leather couch and it feels and stays so much cleaner with us having to two dogs! Even if I prefer the look of fabric, it would be hard to give up the cleanliness perk!

We have leather, and while we do struggle with it being sticky/warm after extended sitting, we find the benefit of ease maintenance/clean up a plus! I don't know how many times we've spilled a drink or dropped food on it, and clean up was a breeze without staining!

I wouldn't have chosen leather, but DH had leather couches before we lived together, and now I'm sold. The dog isn't allowed on the couch but he totally goes on it when we aren't home and it's no big deal, and like others said, it's easy to wipe up spills. I feel like it holds its shape better than most fabric ones. We have the more overstuffed lazy boy looking type, though, so it's plenty comfy (we also use soft throws in the winter or heat), where some of the more streamlined and modern looking ones are probably less comfortable.

@IcebergMom: 100% agree!! In addition I personally don't care for the "look" of leather.
I guess I value the aesthetics more, so I would go with fabric. It's not terribly difficult to have the couch cleaned.

I much prefer fabric, both for the look and for comfort. You can find some fabrics that are easier to clean. We bought some modern-looking microfiber couches and we LOVE it. Easy to clean and stays relatively cool in the summers. I'm not a huge fan of microfiber but with kids around, it's a must have for us!

I like the look of fabric, but with LO and the dog leather is best for us. So easy to clean.

We have leather and I love it. BUT be careful to not buy bonded leather. It's a fake sort of material and does NOT last long at all!

I hate leather. I agree with @IcebergMom: its cold in the winter and sticky and awful in the summer. Not a fan.

Leather can feel awfully sweaty in hot weather so we chose fabric for this reason. Leather would for sure be easier to clean though!

Fabric! I HATE leather.. we were given leather couches as a wedding gift & I seriously cannot wait to get rid of them!

@travelgirl1: I don't think that kind of sweaty hot weather will be too much of an issue in the UK though! I do know what you mean though, I hate getting stuck to leather car seats in the summer!

@Alivoo01: yeah, I'm thinking the same. We are both quite clumsy and like to eat/drink infront of the tv so I can imagine spills will be unavoidable!

I always prefer fabric because it's SO hot and humid here in TX, and you stick to the leather couches.

@illumina: Oh you would want them. I think every cushion has torn..... 8 y/o boy & furniture just don't mix well. I also ripped one just from sitting on it with the button on my back pocket! Seriously loathe these things! Lol

Get a nice futon! Easy to throw on a new cover if it starts to look janky.

We have a fabric sectional. I strip the covers off the cushions/seats(?) once a month and wash them! Super convenient.
