I saw on Solly baby's instagram they are a doing a promotion for 24 hours where you can buy a wrap and have one sent in a large shipment to a refugee mama. It looks like they have set up legitimate channels to do this and determined need so you if you have been thinking about buying one for yourself or friend this seems like a great time!

This is a great idea. I live in Vienna where thousands of refugees have been coming through. I follow a few of the support groups on FB and just today one of them posted about collecting baby carriers. It's great to hear that a company so far away is helping those in need.

This is interesting. Very smart business, and actually seems useful. As opposed to random collections of people's used carriers, I keep seeing posted on my local babywearing Facebook group. Supposedly those types of donations of used physical goods are much less helpful than monetary donations to a reputable relief organization.

@junebugsmama: There was a bunch of articles of stories of people emptying out their medicine cabinets and sending half-used stuff to Haiti or the Philippines after their respective natural disasters. These overwhelm small non-profits and refugee centers! Sending new stuff is more sanitary, simpler, and barely costs us more when you account for cost of international shipping.

@junebugsmama: I think that for those who live far away, a monetary donation to a reputable organization is truly the best thing. For me, I can just hop on public transit and take things directly where they are needed, but needs change quickly and sometimes groups are overwhelmed with donations of clothing/stuff when they really need things like food and toiletries.

I volunteered at the train station yesterday and helped sort donations. I was surprised by the number of swim suits, stained/dirty clothes and inappropriate shoes people were bringing in. But I also found a box of brand new men's winter coats, which was awesome!
