My grandmother passed away and my mom has me doing a photo slideshow to show at her memorial lunch thing we're doing. Im stuck on music to play. My FIL was easy, we just played his music from his band.
I dont want people sobbing, but I want something nice to go along with the photos. They cover her whole life and include pictures of my great-grandparents, my mom and her siblings and all the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Music recommendations can be tough since tastes vary so much. At my dads service in January my mom ended up choosing "will the circle be unbroken" for everyone to sing together.

Have you heard "The Best Day" by Taylor Swift? I heard that recently at a memorial, during a video montage, and it was so lovely and touching. She looped it smoothly and it really wasn't too noticeable.

I know it's a bit of a sobbing song, but I love To where you are by Josh Groban. We played it at my cousins funeral.

What kind of music did your grandmother like?
Was she into swing, or big band, or classical? Did she secretly like Willy Nelson? We were a little unconventional for my dad's visitation and played music he loved. I guess I take the celebrate life approach.

I honestly never heard her listen to too much music of her own. My mom said she liked big band, "rat pack" kind of stuff.
My only personal stipulation is no religious music.

At my MIL's service last fall they used Meanwhile back at Mama's by Tim McGraw. It was very fitting to her and her family.
I love the version of Over the Rainbow that you mention.
