I've always heard about the Diaper Genie but now that I'm registering I'm hearing a lot of raves about the Diaper Dekor. Which one do you use/prefer?

We have the Genie...no complaints! Holds in the smell very well, although her poops aren't that stinky yet since we started solids pretty recently. The refills are kinda pricey but I wait till there's a sale and stock up

I've never used the Dekor, we were given the Genie (second hand from the mom I nanny for). I used the Genie with her two girls for the past 4 years and LOVE it. totally traps the smell. it's the regular version, without the foot thing to open it. consumer report gave it a better review for keeping smells in than the one with the little foot pedal because you really have to push the diaper into it, so it traps the smells well.
the only downsides: refills are pricey and it definitely stinks when you change the bags out. but that's to be expected..I think whoever invents a pail where you never smell the diaper again will be a millionaire.

I'll put in a plug for the Munchkin pail that uses Arm & Hammer. I think it's a bit cheaper than the Genie and I feel like it's done a great job with containing smells.

I mentioned in the other post that my preference is for the dekor because I like it best out of the ones that accept regular trash bags. For smell containment I agree with @SorryCharlie that the original diaper genie is best. The one with the foot pedal doesn't twist the bag so the smell escapes a little each time you open it (this happens with the dekor too but I feel like it is a little better.

@Mrs. Yoyo: Oh yeah I have the arm & hammer one, I always refer to it as the genie. I thought that was the genie. No? lol

@Mrsbells: LOL. It's similar, but nope. Genie is a brand all its own

We have the dekor because I also saw that it got rave reviews on Amazon and in Baby Bargains (but only with the original refills, NOT the biodegradable ones). It' was only $30, so if it sucks I won't feel too bad about getting a different one.

The Diaper Dekor is great for fitting a pail liner for our cloth diapers and the bag cutter is removable with a simple screwdriver.
