Are you invested in the market (in specific stocks, an index fund, a mutual fund), in cash, or something else? What kind of returns are you hoping for... and how have your investments been doing so far?

we have some stocks (which is sucking, but this is the one we're holding out that pays dividends).... then we have an investment account where my husband trades with. the only mutual funds we have is with our 401k/403b and IRA accounts. but the IRA really hasn't grown because we never put any money in it and it's from a rollover LONG time ago. every time i think about putting money in it, i'm like ugh, market sucks. lol. i want a return that's HIGHER than savings. but right now, savings seems to be a better option. keeps going up and down, up and down. i'd like to earn more than inflation!

IRAs, 401k and hedge funds for now besides cash. Once we see a good investment property available we will buy something to rent out.

I don't even know. I have a regular savings account and a money market account with my credit union (both liquid but adding the money market gave me three accounts so a better interest rate on all three, plus returns more than straight savings). DH has a regular savings too. We both have 401(k)s and I have a rollover amount in my IRA from my last job. Otherwise I kinda suck at investing.

We have all the traditional: stocks/mutual funds, 401k, IRAs...etc.
We also own 3 investment properties and are planning on continuing to purchase more as a long-term investment strategy. (I like having something physical to show for my savings. Having too much "paper" equity makes me nervous).

DH has stocks and a 401k, but I really wish we had more. We have a very measly amount in savings, but I'm really hoping to boost that up within the next year. We need to wisen up and become adults, and start thinking about our future and the financial future of our children.

I have mutual funds and a Roth IRA. DH and I also both put money into our companies' 410(k) programs. We have also both bought discounted stock shares through our companies.

We have a cash savings account, 401(k), I have a pension plan, and we're opening IRAs via mutual funds next year. Our returns are ok but not amazing, but we're young and just started really saving money over the past two years since we're finally debt free. I would like to get more heavy into aggressive mutual funds since the market is pretty low. But I don't really have the time/inclination/money to get too into stocks, and I don't know that the return on bonds is really worth it at this time or at my age.
But to those who say they don't know much about investing and personal finances, I send this book to each of my younger siblings when they graduate high school (and I sent it to my brother when he had his first kid since he's older than me and graduated when I was still in high school.) It explains things in an easy to read and understand format and uses a story-telling style of writing to keep it more interesting (although it is pretty damn cheesy in a lot of ways).
