I pronounce it car-mel. I don't think I say it's right, that's just how I've always done it!

Ummm. Hate to tell you but the rest of the world pronounces the a. It sounds so weird without the a. Seriously weird. If you didn't pronounce the a there wouldn't be one in there! Sorry ladies, pet peeve! lol.

@cupcakemama: just how they wouldn't have put a "p" in the word pterodactyl if it wasn't supposed to be pronounced? The English language is notorious for often not sounding the way it's spelled.
If you look it up, both pronunciations of caramel are considered correct.

@erinpye: thanks. I was aware that some words in the English language are pronounced differently to how they are spelt. My point was that it might be accepted practice in the US to not pronounce the "a" but if you left the US most people would have no idea what you were talking about.
