I work from home 4 days a week and commute once a week. I put my kids in daycare. I find it impossible to work with my children at home all the time. I guess I should qualify that, with my daughter it was pretty easy to work from home with her when I needed to to, but not everyday. There would no way for me to give attention to being a mom and work. With my son there is no way I can work from home with him. He sees me and just wants to play or be held and he's 18 months.

So on M, W, Th and F I drop the kids off by 9am (daycare is a 5 min drive) and pick them up at 5pm. During the day I work, do laundry, prep and cook dinner and clean. This leaves the weekend to just family time and no chores. On Tuesday I drop the kids off by 7:40 and pick them up at 5:15 and then commute into work.

I work from home a couple of days a week, and I'll be completely honest -- I don't get a lot done. My son is a 40-minute napper, which doesn't give me a whole lot of time to start anything, let alone finish it! Which means I sometimes have to work when he's down for the night (awful) or just cram everything into the days I'm in the office. Working when he's awake is just out of the question -- I would feel so guilty and he would probably screech at me until I stopped.

It's interesting to read this because I hope to be a WAHM one day! Like @junebugmama, I think I'll send our kid(s) to preschool/mommy's day out a few days a week so that I can work part-time. There's a church preschool in the area I think we'll be living that starts at 6 mo. two days a week, and is affordable enough that it'd be worth it. I think it would be really hard to work at home without some kind of help or childcare!

I'm a WAHM, but I have a nanny. I feed DS in the morning, we drop DH off at the metro. By the time we get back, DS is ready for a nap, so he's in bed while I start my day. When the nanny arrives, she takes over completely so that I can actually work. Once she leaves, though, sometimes I have to juggle DS and work.
