I call my MIL by her first name (tacitly endorsed by her) - DH's father is deceased. When DS is born I assume I'll start calling her by Grandma (or whatever version of grandma she wants!)

haha, I also avoided addressing them by anything for YEARS! Now that I'm married, I call them by their first names. Although it'll be nice when I have kids and can just call them "grandma/grandpa" or whatever the kids call them.

I call my MIL and FIL by their first names. The FIL signs his card to me as 'dad.' It's weird when I see it but I don't mind it. I don't think I could ever call him 'dad.' That's weird to me!

Now that I think of it, I'm not sure what my husband calls my parents. My parents have 'different' first names. I don't think he calls them mom or dad, either. I think he just avoids using names with them.

I call them Mr. and Mrs. lastname, much to my MIL's chagrin. She wants me to call her "lailai", which is Cantones for mother-in-law but I can't bring myself to do it only because I'M not Chinses and I feel weird calling her something in a difference language.

I call MIL - mammy (this is what her kids call her) and FIL - dad or father (kids call him "faaaaahther")

DH calls my parents umma and appa (mom and dad in korean)

I call MIL by her first name, same for DH's aunts and uncles. I call his grandparents Grandma and Grandpa (otherwise they get a little confused, they're in their 90s)

Yeah, looking forward to having kids in this aspect. I call her Mom-in-law in e-mails. I call his dad by his first name, and avoid acknowledging his step-mother's existence - she made the hair on the back of my neck stand up when I met her (aptly - she is an evil stepmother.)

I've avoided calling them anything for almost 9 years now, lol!

I call them by their names. She signs cards "mom & dad" but she's not my mom and he's not my dad. I have one of each, thank you.

I'm an avoider! I don't address his mum by name...I will call her Grandma when we have our bambino though. I call her husband by his first name as does everyone else. My FIL lives with us so I call him Senor (no we are not Spanish but he has the same name as DH and I didn't like saying Senior lol.) When our bambino comes I will call him Grandpa...since that is what I refer to him as when talking with our furinos (a.k.a. pets.) Now that I think of it though I usually avoid addressing him by name too though he knows I refer to him as Senor since my little sister will come over and call him it!

As for my DH I think he generally avoids addressing my mum but if necessary he will use her first name. It will be so much easier when our LO comes so we can just use those titles!

I'm not sure what to call them. I don't see them enough to really think about it. I will be seeing them in a couple of weeks so I guess I will decide what to call them then! I won't feel comfortable calling them 'mom' and 'dad' though.

I call them "mother in law" and "father in law" in German. They think it is hysterical because of my heavy American accent, lol.

I also avoided giving my in-laws a name because I had no idea what was appropriate. I'm pretty sure I offended them all those years because I didn't address them in the proper Vietnamese way either. Oops! I blame my husband for not teaching me. Now I call them mom and dad in Vietnamese.
