I was always the youngest having a birth date of December 1st & I liked it

but I am not sure if there were any pros and cons.

I guess I stayed out of trouble a little longer - since all of my friends turned 18 before me and we live so close to Tijuana, Mexico.. They would go over there and party/drink & I wasnt able to since I was still 17. (back then it was much safer to go down there and party)

I was always one of the youngest. It was annoying at times (being the last one to get my license, etc.), but its not so bad. I graduated college a year early, so with my late birthday, I was 20 with a bachelor's degree!

@Mrs. Bee: I've read a few Malcolm Gladwell books and he always talks about that.

When we try for #2, we are going to avoid end of year birthdays. DH was always the youngest in his class and says that he felt socially awkward and was teased a lot. So that has made me think that it is better to be the older category. Plus my friends with December birthdays tell me it stinks and they get shafted for gifts!

I think I'd rather be the oldest ...until your out if school and being old isn't cool anymore.

I was born in April, and that is some what young around here. The cut off for school used to be Cctober (now I think it is August) so April was always pretty young. I was always short but school wise I was still one of the "smart" kids.

My baby will be one of the older kids since he/she will be born in September/October.

@googly-eyes: Where did you go to school??? The public schools where I lived would not LET students advance that early. I also ended up completing college before I could drink (homeschool), but it didn't affect my social life - my "3.75 GPA or lose it" scholarship did that well enough on its own.

I'm an Oct 6th Bday and I've always been the oldest. I would definitely prefer to be the youngest though, esp as a girl since my potential dating pool was always filled with guys who were younger than me, and we all know that doesn't work! Also, being the first to drive just meant playing chauffer to all my friends.

ETA: Not that dating a younger guy 'doesn't work' I just meant that in general girls mature faster than guys so it's advantageous to be in a grade with older guys!

I was in the middle, but I think I'd prefer being the oldest. When you're young, being a bigger age/number is always cool, and in high school, I would have been allowed to drive and date earlier!

I'd rather be the oldest. My birthday is in March and it felt nice to turn advance in age in the middle of the school year - I felt like I was progressing...I don't know, it made me feel good.

Idk if I really want to say what state, but it was allowed. I think the birthday cutoff has changed now, but I started K at four, graduated hs at 17, college at 20. Nothing too crazy!
ETA: It didn't affect my social life too much, because I spent so much time on work and school anyway, but I did have to tell friends MANY times "sorry I can't go, not 18/21 yet." only to get the awkward "Oh sorry, I forgot. Maybe next time." (No, I didn't have a fake id.)

I actually got to experience both--where I live, my December birthday cut me off from entering kindergarten at 4, so when I did finally go to school, I was one of the oldest in my class being already 5 and turning 6. Apparently, I made such a ruckus about the other kids being so slow to catch on and slow to do their work that by third grade, I was sitting in my own little corner doing a separate curriculum. (I really don't remember being as mean as my mom said I was. I just assumed I was advanced. :-P) The next year, they skipped me up one grade, and I went straight to fifth grade, where I was the youngest in my class from then on.

Personally, I preferred being the youngest in the class to being the oldest. I was always the shortest in my class, whether the youngest or the oldest, so that never bothered me. Aside from being the last to turn 21, being younger was never an issue.

I was in the middle with a March birthday. DD will also be in the middle with an April birthday. I think I'd rather go youngest. I've been thinking about that a lot in terms of when we get pregnant for another baby where their birthday will fall.

I was always the youngest, by a considerable margin. My birthday is mid July but I was a very independent kid and insisted on going to school the same year as my ten month older best friend. Rules have changed since then and it wouldn't be allowed now. It didn't really bother me, in a way- the ID situation in bars here used to be very relaxed and I was never refused entry anywhere. I certainly never felt any disadvantage from it, other than occasional frustrations like my best friend getting the hang of things, like colouring-in neatly, before me. Of course that's the kind of frustration you'd have with an older sibling/friend anyway. My babas will be May babies so they'll be right in the normal age bracket for the school year.

I'm born in September and was one of the youngest, but I honestly never gave it any thought until we started TTC. My husband's the one that's pointed it to me saying that people here in Sweden seem to prefer having a winter baby because it would mean being more developed and bigger during the essential early years. Girls tend to develop faster so it wouldn't be such a big deal, but for boys, a 9 month difference at the age of 6 is a big deal.

I still don't think it's that big of a deal and neither does my husband, but it's just one of those preferences. If anything, it helps build character =)

Funny in my friends I has one that was born in November (and was the oldest of us) and one was born in December (the youngest) so it really depends. I think you can choose when you think your child is ready.

I was born in may so I was younger but not the youngest.
