Forgot to answer the second part:

His doc recommended feeding once a day to start, in the morning so you could see if he had an allergic reaction. Food shouldn't replace milk or formula at this point, so wait at least half an hour after a feeding to offer solids. He should fill up on milk/formula first. You can gradually increase it to two and then three meals, plus snacks.

My DS2 was a torrential spitter upper. All day every day. It finally got a little better around 7 months when he started ingesting more solids (not puree). Really slowed by 8 months and we weaned him off zantac. And then was down to maybe once a day by 9 months. By 10 months spit up was really rare.

Good luck! It was awful, but it does get better, usually by 9 months!

My experience with LO's reflux spitting was the same as everyone above. LO was still spitting up regularly until months 7 or 8, with a significant reduction after that. By 1 year she was completely done with spitting up and had been weaned off Zantac.

Her spitting didn't seem to be affected at all by solids introduction (other than getting more colorful!), which we started once a day around 6 months. We always did solids between bottle/nursing feeds, as it was difficult for LO to get the hang of it and she did much better when she wasn't starving. I agree with introducing one food at a time to check for tolerance, we never introduced more than one food in a three day period out of an abundance of caution since food allergies and intolerances run heavily in my family.
