A common misconception is that reflux medication helps control spit up. It does not. It does, however, control symptoms caused by frequent spitting up (i.e., pain). R was a FOUNTAIN spitter upper from 6w-7m. Multiple times after every feeding, soaking clothing and bibs and couches and carpets. It was so bad that we even saw a pediatric GI specialist. He was on Zantac from 6w on because he was very uncomfortable after feedings, and that did improve by 10w. We started solids at 5 months (on the GI doctor's recommendation) and the spit up seemed to slow down some around 6 months and gradually got better and by 7.5 months was just a few times a day. Took him off Zantac at 8 months cold turkey.

Purees didn't really help the spit up. But, he was a BIG solids eater starting at 6m. Ate normal quantities of table food. At 9 months he spits up only occasionally, but eats 3 meals of table food a day, plus a snack, and has reduced his milk intake.

FYI I went off diary at 1 month and it made no difference. But I was too scared to try it again until 7.5 months....and he was totally fine when I started up again (He's EBF).

We went on Nizatidine at 6 months when the spit up didn't seem to be improving like expected. It made a significant difference for us. I just stopped using it for our LO at 9.5 months. I believe it's comparable to Zantac, but our ped said its often better received from a taste perspective. We were taking it twice per day.

Prevacid does help the stomach empty faster, but my LO still spit up. For us it was the worst right around a year. Volume was a key factor for us, but also any sort of movement after feeding. It was such a stressful time!

We had an issue with overeating after DS was put on prilosec. It took me a while to figure it out since everyone says you can't overfeed a baby. I would feed him what he normally eats and once it was empty I never offered more and he seemed fine. If he gave hunger cues earlier than expected then I just offered him a pacifier. Also, I have heard that Zantac didn't work for a lot of babies and were switched to prilosec.
