I have had the one they have now for awhile (back when you had to pay $25.00 to be part of it!) I think this system will be nice beacsue when you spend $$ for a drink, pastry and lb of coffee you get the stars for it- verses just 1 star as it was before. You are getting like 15 stars for a $30 purchase.

I think the concept is great, but there are definite downsides. I don't like the reward amounts. I am a gold member and I got gold by buying a $2 coffee. At most, I would have spent $60. Now to get Gold you need 300 stars, which is $150?

Also, the free drink for Gold members is at 125 stars. I got my free drink after 12 visits before (with a $2 coffee that was $24) and now I have to spend around $60.

Luckily I'm Gold right now, so maybe it won't be too hard to maintain that with the Gold benefits, but if I weren't Gold already, I feel like you'd have to spend a heck of a lot to get to that level.

@Shizaz: i didnt even think about it this way since i order a latte every day and not just a regular cup of coffee!

If I did the math right it works out exactly the same for me alone, and is better if DH is with me. So no complaints here.

I hated getting one star even when I was buying more than one drink, so making it be per dollar spent seems more fair. Guess I'll see how it works out long term.

DH is pissed. There is a Starbucks at his work and he would collect a star for every plain coffee and even plain coffee refill he would order (2 stars a day usually for literally like a $2 purchase). He only treats himself to the fancy drinks when they are on the house :(.

I think it seems more fair, because it never made much sense that I got the same number of stars for ordering a tall coffee as when I got 2 grande lattes and a snack (although I'd typically have them split orders). But it will probably take longer for me to get rewards now - I mix up my orders but get a lot of iced coffee and try to save the expensive drinks for days when I really need a good pick-me-up (or that I've earned a free drink).

I haven't decided yet, but it's sounding like it will take longer for me to get a reward. I tend to visit frequently, but I don't buy anything too expensive. And if I do get a sandwich and drink in the same visit, I usually ask them to make 2 separate transactions, and I rack up stars that way.

It is a good change for me, because I typically order a venti specialty latte plus a treat for LOs to split, so I should actually rack up rewards faster. I think $ based stars rather than item based stars is WAY more fair.

I think it will work out for me. I normally buy a fancy drink, plus about half the time buy a pastry or breakfast sandwich.

I'm not sure why, but I'd never signed up for the rewards before. I probably will now. My orders average $4.50, plus when DH is with me or I'm taking DD on a Sbux date it's more, so I will probably be one of the ones to benefit from the new system.

@LindsayLou: Oh, that sucks that people would do separate orders to cheat the system like that!

I don't know how it works. I live under a rock apparently.

This will be great for me since I order a venti iced chai every day and add a breakfast sandwich a couple times a week. I'll rack up points faster.
