I think Colbert will be GREAT! Do you think he'll still keep the Colbert Report? I'm thinking not?

i think that he will be good. He probably won't have the Colbert Report anymore. I am sorry that for all of the hilarious women comediennes out there, there isn't one doing mainstream late night.
(just mourning for how great it would have been if CBS picked Amy poehler!)

@keiki_mama: Comedy Central sent out a press release stating they are excited about the last 8 months of hisColbert Report

I loove Colbert, don't get me wrong, and I think the Colbert Report is one of the funniest shows on TV, but I honestly don't think he's the best choice to replace Letterman. He has a very specific character and scthick on CR, and I like that character and think he does it very well and am not sure he's the right person for a more general comedy show. And I agree with @MrsPastryLady: it would have been way cooler (and groundbreaking!) to have a woman replace him! There are SO many funny women comedians and to not have ONE headlining a late-night program is really a shame.

I love Colbert, so I'm excited to hear he was chosen.. I agree with those of you who mentioned not having a woman doing a late-night show. Yes, why hasn't that happened yet? I personally would like Ellen to be a late-night host. I think she is hilarious.

I LOVE Stephen Colbert. Like, he is on my top five list. I think he is one of the smartest, funniest, most aware comics in the world.
I'm really happy for him, but I'm curious how he is going to act on a late night show. There are too many possibilities to even speculate. I think The Colbert Report is perfect and I would have been happy if it was on the air for the rest of my life. The fact that it is going to be over makes me sad.
That said, there are too many talented women/minorities out there (as other posters have pointed out) that would have made GREAT hosts. It's a shame none of them were picked.

@MrsPastryLady: I've read that SNL people very rarely leave NBC due to how well they are treated, which is why it was a shock that Andy Samberg went to Fox for his new show. I wonder if she would have considered crossing over? I think her or Tina Fey would have been great. I like Steven Colbert, however he's not really my style.

@LuLu Mom: there are several SNL/NBC alums on Fox shows right now! Mindy Kaling is another one.
I like the choice! I love Colbert!

@lulumom it will be really interesting to see how he formats the show and what he does. While I don't always watch his show now, I do find it really funny and I think that he books some great guests. He is a very smart man.
I really wonder if they will do the traditional layout/set-up and have a band director/sidekick and if so, who it will be.
pear / 1998 posts
@MrsPastryLady: Really good point about the band/sidekick. I haven't thought of that yet. His current show is so focused on him (obviously, that's part of his schtick) compared to the Daily Show with their many "corespondents", that it's going to be weird to have him interact with someone else regularly if he keeps his right-wing pundit character.

@temperancebrennan I really wonder if he is going to keep his character or act more like himself. I can't imagine that his character will be broad enough to keep a late night audience from across the US happy/entertained.
Jon Stewart doesn't have as much of character I think, which makes him so great to watch when he does so many of his interviews. All in all, it should be an interesting time for Late Night TV
pear / 1998 posts
@MrsPastryLady: I think you're probably right, but he does the character SO well. In the many interviews I've seen where he is himself and not a character, he seems like such a smart, sweet, down-to-earth, NORMAL guy. It's going to be weird for me, haha.

@MrsPastryLady: I love Amy Poehler but would be devastated to see her leave Parks & Rec, so I'm kind of glad they didn't go in that direction for my own selfish reasons, haha.
cherry / 224 posts
@wonderstruck I love her on it too, but Parks and Rec is probably ending soon because Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones have left, so there still could have been time.
BUT! I did hear this week that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are going to do a movie together again soon!

I'm going to miss Colbert. I imagine he'll be acting more like himself, so I wonder if it will be as funny.

I love Colbert and think the Colbert Report is hilarious, but I'm wondering how he will fit into the new role. It will be really weird for him to not be in character!

@TemperanceBrennan: I agree -- I want Colbert Report on for the rest of my life. We watch it every single day (last night's episode over bfast!) I don't find Letterman funny or entertaining in the least, but I just don't want the Colbert Report to end.

@MrsPastryLady: That movie would be amazing!! I've had the feeling they're thinking about ending Parks & Rec with her being offered the job outside of Pawnee and everything, but it was just renewed for another season - I guess we'll see if it's the last one or not. I all the characters on that show (especially Ron!), I'll be bummed to see it go but understand wanting it to go out strong and on a high note.

@Tidybee: @TemperanceBrennan: I also don't want Colbert Report to end! DH and I realized that it's been on for nearly 10 years... that's crazy! Made me feel old.
