Let her be. As long as she can get there herself, she's fine. My son has slept on his belly since the first week hr started rolling. I also sleep on my belly, so I never really worried much.

How old is she? Does she have good neck control? I would only be worried if she can't lift her head easily.

Both my kids slept on their tummys from 4 months on.

Totally reasonable for you to feel scared of her doing that at 4 months. But as others said, if she can roll, she can choose her sleep position. Most (nearly all?) babies choose to sleep on their stomachs once they have the option. These days, DD (10.5 mo) sleeps in the yoga position child's pose, with her butt up in the air, sometimes using her stuffed dino as a pillow. SO ADORABLE.

Let her be! Once DS could roll over to sleep on his tummy, he slept so well!

oh i was so excited when LO started rolling on his own to sleep on his stomach, because he seemed to sleep better that way. i agree to let her be!

DS does this as well. If it is the early part of the night and I'm still awake, I will go and turn his head. Having his face down like that is not his favorite position, usually it's turned, so if I turn his head he will keep it like that.

We kept kids on their back until they could roll over themselves. And when they could finally roll over themselves, we jumped for joy because it meant they could finally fall and stay asleep comfortably!

And they did sometimes sleep with their faces sort of buried, but they had good neck control so I wasn't worried.

(My ped shared some of the stats on SIDS with us. What I remember is that the risk drops way off after four months, and I think there was a similar drop-off for suffocation deaths. )

My DD has also been a tummy sleeper since about 4 months. I was never very nervous bc she had great neck control. She just loves it! And always wiggles herself into that same corner!

my little guy started doing this at 4 months too. face straight down into the mattress. i checked on him like every 5 mins and was super nervous for the first few weeks. but since he could roll really well and had great head control, i never moved him.

He still does it. And I still always check on him before I go to sleep

My second son, who is almost 9 months has slept on his tummy since two weeks of age. It was the only position that seemed to help his reflux, and (due to congenital hypertonia) he could get in position by himself. I think I would be mildly concerned about face down, but not the tummy sleeping itself.

I know it's hard not to worry, but enjoy it if you can! My DD started sleeping a lot better once she could roll to her belly.

@Jackiedavis87: my 6 month old son just started sleeping on his tummy pretty face down. Apparently babies do this all the time (all my friends' babies older than 5 month tummy sleep). I would say he DEFINITELY sleeps better on his tummy.

@pachamama: I really hope so! We went from a 7 hour stretch of sleep when he was 3 months old to waking up again 3 times a night about a month ago . He's been taking naps on his stomach for a few weeks but we co-bed so I have him sleep on his back at night. Well the past 2 nights he's been throwing a fit and I know it's because he wants to sleep on his tummy, so I brought the crib into our room and put it next to the bed, so tonight we're going to transition to the crib . Wish me luck!

@Mrs. Pickle: Just saw this. DS is almost 8 months and he also sleeps face down. FACE DOWN - not turned to the side the slightest bit. Shrug! I assume he can breathe or he wouldnt choose it.

@Mrs. Pickle: I know - it does NOT look comfortable and his face is always red and sweaty when he wakes up!!

I remember when DD first started doing this around 5 months. I'd keep going in and flipping her I was so nervous. Eventually I got over my fears and just let her be! I had to stop swaddling though but looks like your DD is in a sack already.
