DS is 6 months and I have been very excited about starting solids and watching DS try new flavours and textures. I'm doing a mix of purees and BLW, I believe it's important for DS to learn to feed himself so will let him experiment with eating himself but also feed him purees once a day or so.

The point where my BLW ambitions come to a screeching halt is when I place food in front of DS. So far he has shown absolutely no interest in eating the food or even putting it in his mouth. I've tried carrot and cucumber sticks and some broccoli florets and he might pick it up, bang on the table or throw on the floor but not even try to eat. He puts plenty of other things in his mouth.

So, my question is how do I make DS understand he's supposed to eat the food? Is this how BLW starts or is he just not ready yet, should I put the food in his mouth for him or just let him figure it out? Are there any cues I can use to signal its eating time (like a sleep sack might signal it's bed time)? At the moment I don't think DS sees a difference between the empty box of tissues he loves to bang on the dinner table and the steamed carrots I serve...

Thoughts and suggestions are most welcome!
