I rinse mine as well as possible, let it dry overnight, then throw it down our laundry chute in the morning. I only do laundry once a week but I've never had an issue with it smelling.

Growing up, we would handwash all rags after each use (usually to wipe the floor). Then we'd swap em out for other rags, and launder them.

Hand washing was surprisingly easy!

I put yucky stuff like that in one of our closed cloth diaper pails.

If it isn't wet I just toss it down the stairwell now to be honest... I used to have a small trashcan under the sink to collect them when we lived in a duplex and couldn't do that though. I would just collect them when I was going down to do laundry. Most all of them were used to wipe things down with vinegar so smell wasn't ever an issue. If they were sopping wet they dried draped over the sink.

i do laundry often enough that i only put them in the laundry basket when i am actually going downstairs to put a load on. so i rotate them about 2-3 per week. if i happen to do laundry less often one week, then i just put them in the hamper anyway, but bury it under some other stuff.

ETA: i live in an apt building with a shared laundry room, so i don't have the option of just letting sit downstairs in the machine until i put my next load on!

I have a laundry basket at the bottom of the basement steps and I throw that kinda stuff in there until its time to wash a load!

I set the dirty towel by the stairs and take it down next time I need something. The dirty towels hangout on top of the dryer until I run a load with bleach and they get tossed in there.

I sewed two towels together and hang it on a hook in the kitchen. Once the towel bag is full, I do a load.

I have a small basket on the top step going to the basement. I put them in there until going downstairs.
