We have a 2 year old lab/husky mix. Her hair is more husky texture than lab, but not as fluffy as a husky. She's always shed a normal/manageable amount, but the past month has been out of control. She is shedding constantly and has a trail of fur and tumbleweeds coming off of her at all times. Consequently I am vacuuming nearly every day and no amount of vacuuming/lint rolling will keep fur off of our furniture and clothes. We have had her groomed and have brushed her several times. The amount of fur the comes off is like a sheep shearing, but she still seems to be shedding just as much 5 minutes later. We have had a much colder winter than usual so maybe her fur has thickened, but I don't know what is going on. Any suggestions for managing the fur?

I feel your pain. I have a German Shepherd who is a huge shedder. Brushing daily can help--I love the furminator. Fish oil is supposed to help as well. Other than that, I've just made peace with it!
I do know that therapy dogs here sometimes wear a shirt in order to hold in some of the fur.

We had a lab/sky a few years ago and she had the fluffy husky under coat. There was no way to contain the fluff!! The "ferminator" brush did wonders for her. We now use it on our other dogs.

We have a pure white German shepherd x husky. We had to make our peace with dog hair 8 years ago. The only thing we notice that makes it far far worse is artificial heat on in the house. Cold winter may explain that.

I second the furminator! We have a lab mix, and he sheds something fierce when he's losing his winter coat. I either take him outside and just go nuts brushing him, or I do it inside with a vacuum on him. Luckily for me, he doesn't mind being vacuumed.

Furminator!!!! We can get grocery bags worth of hair off our labs.

Furminator can even deal with my golden. We also run our roomba every other day in her main areas.

It's a very dry time of year. Can you run a humidifier in your home? Also, add some omega oils to her diet and try to keep wheat out of it.
Oatmeal baths also help give moisture to their fur.

Furminator definitely helps, but for us we had to use it everyday for a real difference. I swear we could brush our German shepherd for hours and hair would still come out!

I have a purebred husky, and love the furminator. I also give her fish oil caplets and get her groomed regularly!

Yes and no on furminator, it definitely does the job, but the two Goldens I have had in my life, it wrecked their coats. If that's a non-issue, I'd go for it!

We try to do the fur treatment at petsmart once during the winter, and use the furminator brush like pp suggested. We have an Akita husky mix, so I feel your pain!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I forgot we had a furminator in the back of the closet somewhere so I busted that out. Hopefully it will help!
