About 50% of the time recently, my 7 month old DS soaks through his diaper overnight and wakes up at 5 am crying. Wet onesie, wet sheets, everything. I don't think the diapers are too small (size 3 and he is 20 pounds) ... is it possible to put a diaper on wrong somehow?!
I have tried: pampers swaddlers, pampers baby dry, babyganics, and seventh generation. None seem better or worse for my problem.

If you get a Flip cloth diaper cover (or any cloth diaper cover), you could put it on top of your disposable to contain the leaks.

We use pampers overnight diapers (I think they're called "extra protection") and go up a size.

Do they make overnight diapers? I might try that.
FWIW DD is smaller than your DS and I put her in size 4s when she wears a disposable.

Baby dry are supposed to be overnight.
So you guys are saying go up to a size 4 just for nighttime even though the package says like 25 pounds +? Ok!

@wrkbrk: Yeah, I almost exclusively used Pampers diapers and even tried the Pampers nighttime ones (forget what they are called) up a size and I continuously had this issue of wetting through the diaper. Huggies Overnites up a size were the only thing that worked! I highly recommend them!

I would definitely try going up a size. We always needed to go up way before she actually reached the weight limit.

@wrkbrk: Yep, we did Pampers Swaddlers size 3 during the day and Huggies Overnites size 4 at night for the LONGEST time. Eventually we sized up in the Pampers Swaddlers during the day, but never had to size up in the Overnites (potty trained wearing size 4s and now wears a pull-up at night).
Logan is 23 lbs and he's currently in size 4 for both, but Swaddlers during the day, Huggies Overnites at night. No issues yet!

I do Pampers Baby Dry extra protection (different from the regular baby dry, I think), and up a size.

@wrkbrk: I think there's overlap between sizes, but Logan's a chubbier baby, so he needed a bigger size because of his waist. Xander on the other hand was in 3s longer because he was so skinny!

We use Huggies overnights and the inserts @youboots posted for DS and we haven't had a leak since we started that combo. (In case the Huggies alone don't work.) He's 25 pounds and in size 5's.

@Winterbee15: the weight guidelines are so weird! My kid is huge and just flew through the sizes. I just kept watching for leaks and fit. Also, buying some of next size isn't too risky since you can always save them! Aside from having to store them.

I saw another bee post on another thread about too much paste leading to a less absorbent diaper, and I just had a few nights of leaks and definitely think it was due to too much paste, as she had a rash and I was treating her with much more!

@wrkbrk: DS is 7months and 21lbs, I think we have the same kid 
. We've been in the size 4 baby dry for a month now with no problems.
Eta: I would suggest getting just a small package of the Huggies at first, DS seemed to have some reaction to them, where he turned really red where the diaper touched. I bought a big pack and couldn't return it because it was open.

My DD is about 21lbs and in size 4.. we moved her up around 19lbs as she was peeing through 3's at night.

We were definitely using size 4 by then. LO is 23.5 lbs and wears 5s.

the size guides are def off! lo is long and skinny and grows out of sizes/starts leaking well before she hits the upper weight limit. she's 25 lbs ish and in size 5s

Yes to what all have said. My 20 lb 10 month old has been in size 4 during the day for probably 2 months. We use the Pampers overnights (baby dry extra protection) up a size which is a size 5 for us! It seemed crazy when I put him in a size 5 overnight diaper. But it works!! The weight range means nothing.
