We didn't use soy but we used 'special' formula and then when he started milk he was on soy. He did great with it! I hope J transitions well! We mixed bottles (1/2 bm, 1/2 formula) to keep him from favoring one over the other. It seemed to help! Good luck mama!

Soy formula hasn't been available in Europe for awhile now because of the estrogen issue. But I've read that there's debate on the initial findings done years ago and the recent studies say it's safe (that's why it's still available in the US). But I played it safe anyway.

However, my niece (in high school now) was given soy as a baby, per recommendation by her pediatrician and she turned out fine. Last winter, I ran out of Neocate for our long flight home and ended up running to a 24-hr Wal-Mart and getting a pack of ready to serve soy formula. My milk protein intolerant baby guzzled it down!

@coacheswife123: my LO is in hypoallergenic formula (Alimentum) for her supplementing because she had reactions to both milk protein formula and soy formula. I just took a quick look at the can and I don't think I saw whey protein in the ingredients.

ETA - I was also uncomfortable using soy formula because of the reasons described above.
