Does anyone have any encouraging words or positive stories regarding surgery?
I have to have surgery tomorrow morning and to say I am nervous is a vast understatement. I have never had to go through anything like this and I don't really have anyone close to me who has either. I really don't want to do it, but I know I have to.
I am not sure if I am more nervous about the actual procedure, waking up, the pain of recovery or leaving my kids, but all of them combined have me overwhelmed.

the surgery will go smoothly, recovery will be fine, and soon enough you will be all better!
My bro has had knee surgery a few times. He has to go under completely and always comes back out. Once recovered he feels better than ever.

I had gall bladder surgery a couple of weeks ago. The hardest part was how sudden it all was. I have a newborn and a toddler so it was more than mildly difficult to make arrangements at the last minute. Other than that it was okay .

It's okay to be nervous! Remember that your surgeon is not nervous though. he or she has done thousands of your procedures.
Ask for anti nausea meds from your anesthesiologist if you're worried about post op!

@yellowbird: Oh honey, don't worry! I have had several surgeries, including one emergency surgery at 3am that was life or death! The people in surgery are the best. Everyone will take great care of you and modern medicine is such a beautiful thing! (Yea morphine! just saying.)

Anesthesia is amazing. You will love your anesthesiologist very much 
They gave me a shot before the main event and it made everything very fuzzy and I felt incredibly calm. Don't be surprised upon waking up if you have a hard time warming up (apparently a normal side effect). They wrapped me in a blanket and packed warm water bottles around me and all was well. I've had quite a few. All have gone well. Just remember no question is too weird or uncomfortable for medical staff. If you don't know why they are doing something just ask! It made me feel more comfortable knowing what and why things were happening. I had poor pain control after one surgery. I kept asking and they were happy to work with me to find a solution.
Anesthesiologists are good.... You'll just drift right off. Just don't try to do too much too soon after. Rest as much as you can and ask what you are and aren't allowed to do and follow the doctors orders! I find that my patients have trouble post op when they don't follow directions! Don't try to be a super hero

Both DH and I have had surgeries (c-section for me, cyst removal and emergency appendectomy for DH). All of them went seamlessly!

It's totally normal to feel nervous. Everything will go smoothly tomorrow. Ask questions where you need to. No need for the unknown to add to your anxiety. Especially where you don't know anyone else who has had the same procedure. Good luck!

Good luck with your surgery. I've had surgery before and it is nerve-wracking but everything was totally fine. Such great professionals in the hospital. Best wishes for a fast recovery!

I've had 3 surgeries in my life. One when I had a DS. DH really stepped up his game in care for both of us. And recovery wasn't as bad as my anxious mind predicted. It's always nerve wracking and overwhelming going in, but trust you doctor and follow post-surgery recommendations!

Good luck! You'll be fine and you will be so glad you did it after the surgery and recovery are complete. Leaving your babies to have surgery is SO HARD but you'll get through it and they won't remember it.

I have seen many surgeries with residents operating and truly I would feel comfortable with myself on the table with them

Good luck! i'm sure you will do fine! I always ask for a little extra Zofran so I don't feel nauseous coming out of it.

I just had surgery 5 weeks ago and was scared too, but you know what? It turned out just fine. I know it's nerve-wracking, but hang in there and know you're going to be ok. Warm thoughts your way

Thanks everyone! Everything went really well. I'm in a lot of pain but trying to stay on top of it with meds and following all instructions. It was not nearly as bad as I expected but the post op pain sucks. On the road to recovery now.
And I agree..@LAZB: what @KayKay: said was not helpful at all and I'm glad I didn't see it until I woke up.
