I signed my LO (6 months) old up for an infant swim class. I'm curious to see if anyone has advice- like what to bring, do I need to protect her ears, etc. I guess I'm just nervous.

Swim disposeable + swim dipe cover is a requirement at our aquatots class. We started last mth when ds was 14 mths. The younger babes do even btr adjusting since they're not as aware! Have fun! It took us a few classes before ds warmed up but now he lives it!

I started taking LO at 5 mo. Just had little swimmers (which are HUGE on her) and a bathing suit. And the regular stuff. Towel etc. But it was easy-peasy and fun!

@mrsjyw: thanks so much! I just picked up a package of swim diapers, and a new little swimming suit for her.

@Grace: thanks!! I'm finding the swim dipes are huge on her too. I noticed the smallest size started at 16 lbs. LO is only 13.5 lbs. so glad to hear your 5 month did great.

The easiest things for us:
Change into your suit before leaving home if possible, then you just have to get baby changed while there. Our school uses cloth swim diapers for the babies, they sell them at the facility.
Don't forget to pack diapers for after and underwear for yourselves for after (yeah, I've totally forgotten all those things and had to get creative!) I pack a towel for each of us in a big beach bag to stash our clothes in too during the lesson.
We just follow the instructor's directions, they will give you an idea of how to handle the water, but we have never done anything special as far as protecting his ears or anything like that. We did several months of lessons before getting to the point of having him ready to go under, so while it's overwhelming at first, most of the time you are just getting them comfortable with the feel of the water.
When changing I usually strip baby, bundle up in a towel and change into my clothes, by then he was toasty and ready to get dressed.
Any questions feel free to ask, we've been doing this for almost 2 years, and LOVE our swim lessons Can't wait to start lessons with our second little guy!

Just remember to have fun! We were focused on getting LO to do stuff and then forgot that it's a lot about us learning techniques to use later on as well and to just have fun. We didn't worry about LO going under as we had been putting her under water beforehand but everyone has their own comfort level!

Same as @mrsjyw: @lemondrop:! We started a little before 6 months I think! She loved it! Overall, the whole class is only ~15 min. even though they say it's longer.
Be sure to pack extra swim dipes! Ours requires 1 disposable swim ripe + 1 reusable swim dipe. They sell the reusable ones. The smallest size was huge on her, but the reusable and a suit over usually cover it.
We take dull advantage of the play pool before and after class, and practice in the tub at home sometimes too. We never used anything for her ears.

@lemondrop: this is wonderful information just the answers I was looking for. I wasn't sure if we would be going underwater right away or not for quite sometime. Thanks again. I'm more excited now!!

@birdofafeather: that's great advice thanks! I am going to try not to get caught up in that. I want LO to get used to the water. I'm glad the class is titled Getting Wet it makes it sound like they will just be exposing babies water that's bigger than in the tubby.

@shopaholic: thanks for the helpful advice. I really want LO to get used to the water at an early age. I hope they sell the reusable dips there if it's required, bc I don't have one, only have disposable swim dipe.

@shopaholic: thanks again. Swim class was a huge success. LO loved it. Can't wait for class again next week. Our pool does not require a reusable diaper just a disposable and a suit over top. I felt extra prepared thanks to everyone here. We met a couple little friends too!
