Taking LO to the pool for the first time on Sunday. Am I supposed to get a package of those swim diapers? Or the cover that goes over a regular diaper? He's 13 months.
Bonus question - where can I buy them and how much should I expect to spend? No time for online shopping so I need to pick this up at Target, Wal-mart, Carter's, Babies R Us, etc.

We got a reusable swim diaper, which you can get at target. They only catch the poop though, so watch out if you are going to carry the baby and put it on right before you get in the water.
ETA: you wear them in place of a regular diaper.

Reusable swim diapers! Target carries iPlay and Charlie Banana. If you find some with side snaps, I would get those. You'll want at least 2, depending on what kind of pooper he is.

I bought a pack of Huggies Swim diapers and didn't know what to expect. I was shocked and mortified to see pee trickling down her leg while talking to some friendly strangers. Turns out they all do that. It's just there to catch poop.

@cmomma17: Also, swim diapers are made to not absorb water (which is why they don't absorb urine as well) so that they don't get all huge and puffy while your LO is in the water. So I wouldn't put him in in his regular diaper because he'll weigh an extra 5 lbs when you take him out if you do!

Thank you for this thread. I ordered some iPlay swim diapers on Amazon today. I ordered 3Ts since he's pushing 30 lbs and they run small. LO starts a Sunday swim class this week.

@cascademom: iplay swim diapers are great. R started lessons last Sat and they don't allow disposable diapers. He will love the class!

@Smurfette: We feel like we've been a little late on getting him swim classes. One of our local FB parent group had a posting about a local swim class. So, our Sunday Funday will start with swim class, probably lunch, and then nap.

@cascademom: The group that goes before R is 18-36 months and I heard a couple parents saying it their LO's first class. So I think you are ok!!
Last week R passed out in the car ride to lunch, less then 5 min drive! I told DH this week, I will have to sit in the back with her so we get home and she naps there.
