This morning DD said her finger hurt and it looks painful
Swollen and red
She picks her nail beds so I am wondering if it's infected-
If I call the Ped they will have me come in but I would hate to pay for a visit for them to tell me it will resolve on its own
Hard to get a good picture but hopefully you can see it -
Would you take her in or wait a day?

Ouch! We would. Our sick co pay is $30. It sucks to hear the advice of wait it out, but who knows the doctor may have some remedies to relieve the pain.

I would wait. I get this fairly often, it will resolve on its own in a day or so. Try soaking it in salt water.

Try soaking in warm salt water several times a day. I'd bring her if you see streaking or she gets a fever- but with just this I think I'd give it a day or two

I'd try the saltwater soak first. Take her on Monday if it's not improving! I had this once and needed antibiotic bc it was staph.

It looks like she has an infected hang nail. I'd put some neosporin and a band aid on it.

I would soak in warm epsom salt water, let air dry for a while then put Neosporin + bandaid on it. Repeat few times a day.

How long has it been like that? If only today then I would try home treatment but wouldn't leave it much longer than two days. My finger was infected like that from picking at a cuticle and they lifted around the cuticle with a razor blade to get rid of some pus and gave me antibiotics. But if it's just today then do what others have suggested with the antibiotic finger cream and bandaid and keep a close eye on it.

Looks like paronychia. I would do as others have suggested...wash with soap, warm soak a couple times a day & ointment. Tell her to stop picking her hangnails! I get this quite often and that is the cause of it. If the pain and swelling doesn't go down within a few days (3-4) take her in and the dr will drain it and give antibiotics.

update:
we soaked in Epsom salt 4 times on Saturday and it looked much better!! Then Sunday morning it looked worse 
Took her to the clinic and they said it was infected and gave her amoxicillin - didn't look much better this morning though either - ugh! The clinic said if it wasn't improving in 2 days to take her the Ped - I REALLY hope they don't have to cut/drain it

@Portboston: She picks her nails and hang nails - I haven't had to cut her nails in well over a year! I constantly tell her to stop but she wont - DH suggested we put gloves on her at home
