LO is 8 months and had 4 teeth. i had been wiping his gums and teeth with a wet washcloth at the beginning of a bath. then he had a fall and one of his teeth got knocked out, so we went to the dentist. the dentist gave us a toothbrush and said to start brushing at morning and night, and take him into the dentist for his first appointment at 18 months.
i don't know how much contact i actually make with his teeth with the toothbrush. i am using it, but i still try to wipe with the washcloth because i feel like i have better control/aim.
at some point we're supposed to start using a little bit of toothpaste, but i'm not sure when.

Getting in the habit of wiping their teeth, or even gums, as early as possible is a good idea. You can use a washcloth or a soft bristle toothbrush. Twice a day is ideal. We started using a little rubber toothbrush around 3 mos and just made it part of our bedtime routine, then when he got a couple of teeth we started using a baby-safe toothpaste. One of the bees had a good post on dental care and gear in the past couple of months.

I was wondering about this cause R has 2 teeth now. I have been wiping with a wet cloth right when we get in the bath.

We started brushing twice a day as soon as he had teeth around 4 months. At first we just used water and a baby brush, but by 8 months, he already had 8 teeth and we started using a tiny bit of Tom's fluoride free paste.
