1 floor, 4-5 bedrooms, 4.5 bath, den/office, high ceilings, huge awesome kitchen, decent sized back yard. granite, marble, wood floors. walk in closets, lots of windows, 3 car garage, cute and pretty laundry room!

Our dream/forever home will have 3 bedrooms (plus 1 or 2 office rooms), 2.5 bathrooms, a real "chef's kitchen" with Viking appliances, be a pretty open floorplan, have hardwood floors throughout, lots of windows, 2 car garage, in a good part of town with a good school district and have just a small yard with a low new england stone wall out front.

It will also be extremely energy efficient (solar panels, solar water heater, energy efficient appliances, etc.) and have wood heat as the main heating source via a wood stove that heats with the main chamber and has a bread/pizza oven with the bottom chamber (http://www.vermontwoodstove.com/vermontbunbaker.htm), with natural gas backup.

We have the blueprints and the money, just waiting for the perfect piece of land to come up for sale in one of the neighborhoods we like.

Our dream home would be a big one story with some acreage. I would also like to have a spacious kitchen with lots of storage and a double oven with an adjacent spacious mudroom/laundry room. 5 bedrooms with an office and 3.5 bathrooms with a 3 car garage.

I dream of a big, white, gourmet kitchen with upgraded chef's appliances!

3 - 4 BRs, 2.5 baths, a foyer (our current front door opens right into the living/dining room), a big yard with a fence for our dog to run around...

What are the elements of your dream home?
about 3,000 sq ft on at least 2 acres: Hardwood floors, a spacious kitchen with a sunny breakfast nook, a separate dining room, a nice-sized family/great room for entertaining family/hosting holidays, 4-5 bedrooms, wrap around porch (that's my husband's request), basement with rec room and theater (another of his requests lol!), a big laundry room - laundry is my favorite chore IF I have a nice room to do it in, and library/study.

Are you in your dream home now?
Definitely not - we are renting a small townhouse and can't even afford to stay here. Not sure where we'll go from here, but it will most likely be renting soon.

Do you actually aspire to your dream home in the future?
YES. We were pretty reasonable in what our "dream" home is. Of course we have houses we LOVE but would never be able to afford, so we try not to entertain the idea and torture ourselves.

How soon?
We will try to build and we're aiming for ten years, give or take. But I don't see it happening anytime before that. The home we want, though not too expensive, is definitely way out of our price range right now. Right now my husband is in the "pay your dues" stage of his career, and I feel like in just another 5 years or so he will be able to get a huge raise/promotion or transfer to another company for more $$.

Are finances a limiting factor?

our dream house would be an old house - like 1900-1920. I love the style, dark wood beams on the walls and ceilings, pillars, colonial, double doors etc. I love those types of houses and so does my husband.
Unfortunately our area has hardly any homes like that, so we'd have to move at least a half hour away to find something like that - and more like an hour away. Also - we may have to sacrifice a yard for a house like that.

Oooh, we are stuck in a small 2 bed, 1 bathroom ranch thanks to the housing market crash. This was DH's bachelor pad and we will likely need to be here for another 4-5 years while we save up for a down payment and pay down on principal. Our dream home will have an open floor plan that works for entertaining. Key to this will be the kitchen being open to the family room. I hate now that when we have guests, whoever is cooking is isolated and away from conversation. We would also like 3 bedrooms, a first floor office if possible, central air, fantastic kitchen, walk in closets galore, a great master suite with bathroom, and a 2 or 3 car garage. I also love details like tray ceilings, pillars, and other woodworking details. Houses like this in our area cost a pretty penny so we will probably need close to $100k for a down payment. Ugh.

I want an old fashioned looking home( like a Craftsman) with new plumbing and AC/Heat with big rooms with ample closet space. Not going to happen...at least in our price range!

I picture a spacious and open living area with lots of light, and a great kitchen with plenty of space, since we love to cook and host dinner parties. Both me and DH really want a very energy efficient and sustainably designed home, so I envision having solar panels, double-paned windows, and lots of energy saving devices. Oh, and I also really want a 2-person shower w/ two individual shower heads for the master bathroom. DH is an architect, so there is a good chance that we will build some version of our dream house in the near-ish future

Our house is pretty dreamy now. It's a newly renovated craftsman with preserved moldings in the living and dining rooms. It's the perfect size for us - not too big and not too small. 3 bedroom upstairs. 4th bedroom on the finished basement level. 3.5 baths. A small porch. Small yard but enough to fit a play structure and for our kids to play. Big open kitchen. Fireplace in the living area.

Dream Home:

5 BR/3BA ranch style with full completed basement. Large masterroom, with walk in closet & full bath (with a whirlpool tub and full shower.) Open plan upstairs with a big open kitchen and island for entertaining purposes. Huge deck outside. Little to no stairs (besides leading to basement)

This is a dream that we hope to accomplish/build in the next 3-4 years out in the country near DH's family. We already have the land picked out, but we need to save more before we can buy it.

My dream home is a ranch with at least 3 bedrooms; big master bedroom with two closets and a jetted tub, mud room, laundry room, high ceilings, granite counters, big island, screened in porch and a patio.

We found an awesomely perfect house by a builder near my parents, but they live 3 hours from where we are and I don't think I could find a job around there. Around here land is much more expensive, and new construction is very hard to find, so I don't think I'll get my ranch :(.

I would love a house with contemporary architecture, with 5 beds 3 1/2 baths, a 3 car garage, and indoor/outdoor areas. I think 2500-3000 sq ft would be ideal size wise, with a developed basement made into a media area. Ideally it would have a large kitchen with sub-zero built in fridge and freezers, and a wolf gas range/oven. I would love to have solar panels.

We would love to build our dream home in 5-7 years from now. We are in a really nice 4 bed 3 bath home right now, and it would be comfortable as a forever home if need be, but once we are done having kids, we will likely start the search for the perfect lot.

we hope to build a reproduction 1800s Vermont-style farmhouse! minimum 10 acres, 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, large kitchen, separate dining room, sun room, hardwood floors, wood stoves & wood pellet furnace, w/ solar electric/hot water. Great big garden, apple & plum trees, blueberry & raspberry bushes, small barn for a pet horse & cow for beef, chicken house....a space where our friends and family can gather, and we can produce much of our own food.

When I can't sleep, one of my relaxation techniques is to slowly walk through my dream house in my mind. I picture the furniture, the light, the decor, and so on- I'm so familiar with it now that it is very easy to meditate on and actually helps me fall asleep!

Definitely not in our dream home (small twin on .18 acres, but it has four bedrooms with the converted attic space and so suits our needs). Plus it's in a great school district. My biggest complaint is that there's very little prep space in the kitchen. That and the lack of storage.

My dream home would be older but updated, craftsman style with window seats and a stone exterior. Garages for my SO to work on his classic cars. At least two floors, with a gorgeous wood staircase. Landscaping that even I couldn't kill

Interesting that so many of you would want a ranch style house! I love the idea of one floor, but I don't like the look of ranch homes at all.

I would love an older, craftsman/bungalow style home, updated to the nines. I don't need tons of square footage, but 5 bedrooms / 4.5 bathrooms is the ultimate goal because we want at least two kids and a guest bedroom. Obviously craftsman homes are usually not that big. The neighborhood is also really important to us. Kind of a needle in a haystack!

We want 100 acres, straw-bale house with solar panels and super energy efficient so we will be practically off the grid. We are torn between a ranch and two story. We want 4 bedrooms plus a study, designer kitchen, lots of closet space, hardwood floors, walk-in master shower and computerized.
