I will miss it, but the excerpt above is true. Target in Canada just doesn't have the same brands as Target in the US. It's really too bad though, lots of jobs lost and money wasted in building/renovating the store space.

@mrbee: The announcement this morning was disappointing for sure. They invested a substantial amount into real estate and infrastructure with their entry but they haven't been able to come close to the customer expectations. Their biggest downfall was probably inventory/supply chain related as you often find empty shelves for weeks at a time for basic items. The fact that they haven't been able to make price points attractive is also an issue.

The would probably would have been better off entering in a more traditional way by building a couple of new stores in major centres and then expanding. Much of the leased space they took over was smaller format stores and were poorly laid out/converted.

Also disappointing for the jobs that will be lost as a result and the challenges that re-leasing the space will pose...

I was shocked when I found out today! Very disappointing.

No surprise.

When they opened they had no stock
They take forever to get more stock
Their prices are stupid compared to the US stores
Walmart has way more to offer - produce, bakeries, etc.

I'm surprised, but not sad. Every time I went to Target, I thought "I just do not understand the big fuss about it." I would leave grumpy because they never had what I was looking for and everything was always expensive.

I'm pretty bummed. I loathe Walmart and Target was a nice alternative for a discount store with some pretty sweet items. I loved that it was never that busy .. but I guess that was part of the problem

Walmart just doesn't even compare when it comes to clothes or home decor. And Target's customer service is great! (or at least at the one in my city)
It's unfortunate that everyone compared the prices to the US stores- the dollar hasn't been at par for a while, and then to factor in the cost of gas as well as the time of crossing the border and driving down to the closest Target, it's not worth it (for me).

So nutty. They just built and opened a SuperTarget in my city in October. And now they will close it down. But yeah, when they opened the first wave it was such a disaster with empty shelves everywhere. Such bad planning.

The nearest Target was 2 hours away from me but I really enjoyed going when I did go. It wasn't as great as the US Target by any means, but it was still 1000x better than Walmart

@alohaorchid: I agree! It was cheap (and we go to superstore and walmart) and clean, always spotless, and most of the times the shelves were stocked, and sometimes they would be sold out of one particular item, but shelves being empty? no way.

@.twist.: @alohaorchid: Agree! And the design of their home decor items is far better than Walmart or Superstore (and defunct Zellers). I'll miss it. We're going tomorrow
