anyone had to get the tb test during pregnancy? my school district sent me a notice that the last time i got one was 2011 and need to get one by 9/30. i'm now 6wks pregnant. gonna ask my OB next week at my appt. the cdc says its safe. but just wondering if any of you had to get one.

I have to get one every august, so I must have gotten one last summer when pregnant. I honestly don't remember though! They don't let me work without it up to date so I know I did get it.

@iluvboba637: I got mine when pregnant. I think 10 weeks? Not a big deal and my OB (and doctor husband) said not to worry. I didn't want to ask HR for a delay to a later time because I was not sharing the news at that point.

I was asked by my company to get it (they request employees get it annually) but since I had just done it when I was hired on 4 months prior, I opted not to and just got my midwife to write me a note stating it was unnecessary (though she had said it really would be okay to re-test).

@Ash: may I ask what a send out is.
I'm wondering what would happen if I refuse. are they going to tell me I cannot work. And if so, does that mean I don't get paid?

I started a new job (as a teacher) and got pregnant the same week. When I went to get my physical, I asked if the TB test would be safe and they told me it would, but they would rather not do it just in case. They wrote on my form for me to have it done after delivery. HR never said anything about it, so I guess they were okay with it.

@lilteacherbee: ooh good to know a doctors note can excuse you. I hope my district would be ok with this too.

@iluvboba637: well I work at a hospital so I had them draw my blood and send it out to get results that way rather than having an injection.

@Ash: oh got it. Yeah I read about blood test. I'm gonna call my pcp and see if they can do that.
Edit: just called my pcp and they said they don't do the blood. Ugh!

I got the Tb test during my frozen embryo cycle and was so paranoid. But both the doctor and my re said it was safe bc it is just a skin test.

I did, it wasn't a big deal.

I got one around 12 weeks, I was required to for work. I told them I was pregnant and they said it was fine. I also did some research prior and everything came up with it was okay. So, I did it and everything was okay!

It's totally fine - I had 2 during my last pregnancy (they required a 2 step PPD). I actually had the last one placed the day I went into labor and made my postpartum nurse read it the day we were discharged because I didn't want to start the process over again! You're basically just getting a tiny injection under the skin of something inert to see if you have antibodies that will make a reaction. I think it's practically impossible that any of it would make it to baby!

I have to get one yearly for work, so I've gotten it through both pregnancies.

I've gotten them yearly for work and haven't had a problem with either pregnancy. I double checked with my OB and she was completely fine with it.
