I use them to wipe down the counters, stove, and table, as well as what @Mrs. 64 mentioned above.

@swurlygurl: I'm glad you asked this because we got a whole bunch as wedding gifts and they've been sitting in storage since then because they don't ABSORB anything!

@swurlygurl: Not exactly that texture. Somewhere in between that and a terry cloth type towel. I do have some that are more absorbent than others and they are on the more frequent rotation.

I have some that actually absorb, and those get used for drying dishes (very occasionally.. we usually let them air dry). The pretty, useless ones I just keep around for decoration. They add a pop of colour or pattern, and I consider that a purpose

We must use something different because we go through a LOT of tea towels. Drying hands and dishes are the main thing. Sometimes they are good for a quick wipe of the hands when baking or cooking.

@swurlygurl: Yes, whenever we get new ones, they need to be washed at least once for them to absorb.

I use mine all the time to wipe my hands or as an impromptu potholder or lap placemat. We also use then when we wash pots and pans- sometimes as a drying mat and sometimes to wipe things off and quickly put them away.

We only have five tea towels and wash them/ rotate pretty regularly.

I have TONS of them and we go through them all the time! We use them mainly to dry hands. Sometimes dry dishes or wipe up spills. Most of them are from Anthropologie and Sur La Table. THOSE actually absorb. The ones I got from Home Goods or Target do absolutely nothing. It's seriously annoying. And they shrink and get crunchy in the dryer.

I use mine all the time for hand and dish drying, wiping the counters, covering baked items, etc and my cleaning lady uses them instead of paper towels. I just buy ikea ones because I know cute ones would be wrecked in my kitchen.
