I like the idea of giving him a gift card with a larger balance. Use a little of the money to buy an actual board game they don’t have and wrap it?

Uno and Jenga can be played with large and small groups, essentially everyone knows the rules, no small parts to lose, and they works at all ages.

Go fish and geography puzzles are similar except for the all ages part.

Bananagrams, Appletters, and Pairsinpears are all literacy games that have also been loved by my elementary students but the directions need to be explained.

I have heard good things about Hi Ho Cherry-O, which is more of a basic math skills game if I remember correctly.

I realize that none of these are specifically *board* games, but just games.

I personally dont see games for the class as a gift for him. Maybe he felt he had to put something like that down ? I would give him a $50 gift card. He can buy the games himself of he wants and then he gets the tax deduction for that
