Have you ever heard of teachers doing in home visits before school starts? I heard that some of the preschool teachers at LO's school will come to the kids homes to get to know them before the school year starts. I think that's kind of cool!

Only in preschool. We had one visit, but this past year, we didn't because the teacher was already my son's teacher in the camp summer session.
I loved it, as did my son. I think it helped on the first day of school when he recognized the teacher.

My LO had one for preschool, and it was really great. It helped him form a relationship with them early on, and he was so excited to start school.

Our preschool does it for the 2s and 3s classes. We have ours in a few weeks!

This was offered last year for M's preschool class. When I emailed to set it up her teacher recommended that she come in to the classroom to meet the teachers. I was a little annoyed that they changed the plans, but I think it was better for her to be comfortable in the classroom and see all three of her teachers. They made her feel so special

@Bao: Yes! DS starts day care on the 15th and next week his lead teacher comes over to get to know him in his own environment. I thought that really set this day care apart from others we toured!

Yes my son's preschool did that. It was nice to meet the teachers ahead of time, and my son felt special. He's really shy, so it was a nice way to start the school yr.

Our daycare does this during the first week, I think it really helps ease the transition
