This article is so cool! I never would have thought of trying this stuff so early. I knew for sure I wanted Cobi knowing how to swim by two years old, but I had no idea I could start at 6 months (or earlier!) and how receptive a baby could be. The little video at the end of the post is soo cute!!
I think I may have to bring him to the YMCA pool this week

We're starting swim lessons in January! She'll be 9 months. We're already starting to go to the leisure centre to the pool regularly. She LOVES the water.

wow thats amazing, ive never seen anything like that. i would like to try it with Pierson but i would be terrified the first time puting him under water!

@zippylef: wow that's amazing. DS is almost 6 months old and he seems so indifferent about the water. It's not really exciting for him, but not scary.
@stargal: Oh I know! that was my first thought, I couldn't imagine putting him under the water. But the instructions are pretty gradual. DS does shower with me, so he is used to get water in his face all the time.

@Coco Bee: Char has a little swim seat that allows her to float around by herself and she's all about it.

I considered teaching her when she was 6 months old, but we don't have a pool and I didn't think it was worth it.
Will definitely teach her when she gets older.

We're doing swim lessons and Baby T loves the water! He goes underwater and looks completely surprised every time. The swim instructor said to blow on his face to make him close his mouth, but that makes him laugh.

We are starting swim lessons when DS is 6 months old. The swimming instructor said we could start earlier but didn't think we'd get much out of it until he was 6 months old.

@Coco Bee: He started at 7 months and is 9 now. Every time he sees a pool he starts flapping his arms in excitement.

My LO started swimming at 4 months old but nothing really serious until this year. So he started at 12 months old. We focused on the Infant Swim Rescue skills. But also did 2 two week swim lessons at the local pool.
By the end of the lessons 15 months old) he could: float on his back for 5 seconds, with help go down and get rings from the bottom of the pool (
kick, go down the slide, grab the wall and hold on. We had just started on swim, float, swim when we stopped lessons. We plan to keep working with him through the year at an indoor pool.

we have a pool (so do my parents and aunt) so we will definitely be getting her used to the water! possibly doing mom and me class in the spring (she'll be 6-7 months old) to get her ready for the summer

We started swim lessons at 8 weeks, now at 7 months he goes under water all the time! We started by sprinkling water over the back of his head and saying "1, 2, 3, under" at "under" we sprinkle the water over his eyes and nose. Eventually they learn to hold their breath during the count down.

Here is a video of him going under water, after a few seconds it's like nothing happened. He makes a bigger deal out of getting dressed than going under water!

Definitely! If we were at the new house already this summer we would have had her in the pool already.
Hm never occurred to me that swim lessons might be offered during the winter!

@regberadaisy: that might even be better since then by summer she'll be able to swim or at least be more familiar with water.
Btw your new house is sounding more and more awesome the more you talk about it when will you be able to move in?

We're staring them at 9 months, as well. It's the earliest any of the schools take babies around here. We live in FL, so it's pretty important.

We're going to sign up for swim classes tomorrow! I'm so excited to see all these little ones doing so well in the water. LO has been in the pool a few times, but doesn't really care about it.

@Coco Bee: hahah I have no idea. My husband is doing everything himself. So between working full time and being a new dad time is limited. I'm hoping before winter. 
When it's done I'll post some before/after pics!

We didn't because DD had PE tubes due to ear infections and couldn't have her head submerged. Now that she is 28m and the tubes have come out we've talked about doing lessons because she LOVES water. I'm thinking we might sign-up for some lessons this winter; DH could take DD and I could take our newborn and either watch or do a class with him/her.
