LO's water cup leaked onto my phone 
There is condensation on the camera lens in the back of the phone, and when I try to turn it on (by holding down the hold button) I get the silver apple icon, but then the screen stays black. Any advice???
I had it in a ziploc with silica gel packets and just added some rice, which I read helps it dry out. I don't even care so much about the phone, more about the photos/videos that I hadn't uploaded to my computer yet!!

DH has used the rice trick before after dropping it in the toilet!

Leave it in a airtight container overnight with the rice. That should fix your problem. If you take it out tomorrow and it still doesn't work, leave it in for another 10-24 hours. I fixed a phone that was completely submersed in water this way... twice.
Avoid trying to turn it on again until tomorrow morning. If there is still moisture inside, turning it on could fry it.

I say go to the apple store and see what they suggest. LO was sucking on my iphone last weekend and it stopped working for a while. I put it in front of the fan for an hour, and it magically started working again! Sounds a little less severe than your situation though...good luck! Losing photos is so sad

@pui: ah ok, thanks!! I will try to restrain myself from turning it on til tomorrow morning. Does it have to be completely covered by the rice? Like fully submerged?

@betsyboop: I would go, except I hear it can be a madhouse and I'd have to bring LO, and we're leaving for vacation on Friday so have tons to do before then!

Completely cover it with rice for 24 hours in an airtight container. You can try the apple store but they'll likely just say "get a new phone" so try to recover it on your own first. DH's got messed up due to water in the charger port (corroded it, allegedly, it stopped charging and even though it lookd normal they said "water damage corrosion") and we had to buy a new one. Luckily we could back it up before it died. Hope yours turns on to be backed up! Good luck!!!

It happened to me too, just about 3 weeks ago. It never came back to its full life. Luckily for me, I was still in the 1 year warranty window. I told them "it's just not working". And they shipped me a new one and gave me shipping labels to return my phone.

I dropped my phone in a glass of scotch (which is super disgusting, I know!!!), and I put it immediately in a bag of rice overnight. It was fine the next day--sending you good juju!

@hilsy85: try the rice! my friend left hers outside in a puddle for a few days before finding it there and the rice worked - miracle!

Also dropped mine in the toilet and used the rice trick. The key is to power down your phone and don't turn on for 24 hours! Good luck!

DH's phone soaked for well over two hours in water that spilled (from a Nalgene bottle) in the bottom of his backpack a few months back. When he got home I immediately turned it off (because he hadn't done that yet!) and put it in a ziplock bag of rice and let it sit for 2 days (because it had been in the water for so long).
After about 48 hours I took it out and turned it on and it was fine! I did not take the phone apart, I just put it in whole.

I haven't read the previous comments, but I dropped mine right after getting it in the dog bowl and the same thing happened. I turned it off, put it in a bag of rice and sat it ontop of our cable box so it would get slightly warm. I left it there overnight and things greatly improved! I had to take a piece of paper towel and stick it into the mic/headphone jack to get the excess water out of there and that helped improve the speaker and camera. It's been nearly 2 years since (yikes! I need a new phone) ansit works fine

@hilsy85. I wouldn't stress too much if you've turned it on since. Just try not to turn it on again so it can dry out without coroding the insides. I didn't try to open it at all. I was worried I'd make it worse! Hope you can revive it.

Leave it in the gel/ rice for a couple of days. I dropped mine fully immersed in water, and was able to get it working again after 3 days in rice. The wifi never came back, but the rest of the phone was fine.

Ok so I tried turning it on again this morning after it had been in the rice for about 11 hours...still nothing I got the apple icon a few times, but then just black screen and I still see condensation on the camera lens. I think I'm going to try to take it to a repair store. Waahhhh (#firstworldproblems, I know, I know). I don't even understand how there's this much damage though, it's not like it was fully immersed! Just a few sprinkles of water.
