How did you transition your kid from a crib to a bed? How old were they? how did you prepare them? What type of bed did you get them? What do you wish you had known or done differently? And of course what went well?

We did it at 2.5, which in retrospect was too young. We were already spending up to 90 minutes trying to get him to sleep at night and figured if we were going to have to sleep train him we might as well switch to the toddler bed at the same time. We did a toddler bed because he just seemed too little for a big bed, which I think was a good call because even with the rail he's fallen out a few times. We then had to put up a gate at the door to keep him in his room and take all the toys out, and do the sleep lady shuffle to get out of the hour of holding his hand as he fell asleep. It's been about two months and he's pretty good now, but it was tough for a while.

We did it at 19 months with my first. She was climbing out during the night and we find her in the twin sized daybed we had in her room. Her sister was coming in a few months and needed a crib so we went with it. No problems. It was a lot easier than I expected.
16 months with my second. She was climbing out and every day for a week she was running to her big sisters bed and falling asleep there at nap time. Baby sister was four months and needing a crib shortly, so again, we went with it. Again no problems.

We just did it in August just after she turned 3. She was super happy in her crib but we need the crib for LO2 who is due to arrive any day. I wanted her to have a couple of months to transition before the baby came.
We talked about how she was a big girl and needed a big girl bed. We just put her in a twin bed with a rail. She is allowed to have whatever stuffies she wants in the bed (which is all of them) and that made her excited for the transition. She definitely doesn't sleep quite as well as in the crib but overall it has gone well. I find she drops her lovey overboard and I have to come in and get it in the middle of the night which never happened in the crib. She also gets up a little earlier now that she's in a bed for some reason. We have made it a rule though that she is not allowed to get out of bed until one of us comes in to get her.
Good luck with the transition, it was pretty easy for us but it could be because of her age.

25 months. She was climbing out of the crib. We took the front of the crib off and bought a mesh rail off amazon(we thought we bought the conversion kit but apparently didn't). Then maybe 4 months later we moved her to a queen bed(we had the mattress). She had no issues with either transition.

22 months. We need the crib for the next in January and I didn't want to wait too long. He skipped nap the first day, didn't understand a new bed. The first night he was exhausted and fell asleep quickly. The next nap, he kept trying to get out of the room, so I locked both doors. That was required for a few days/maybe a week. We keep the doors locked now because I don't want the 6am wake up. He has books and a few toys in his room. I usually get him between 7 and 7:30 am.

We did it shortly after my son turned two. He was flipping out about sleeping in his crib and bedtime was a nightmare for weeks...and then it was immediately solved when we converted his crib. He did sleep on the floor in his room for about a month which I felt bad about but he seemed totally ok with. Our transition was super easy. At like 2.5 he started to come out of his room a lot but that only lasted maybe a week.
