They are having one in the Seattle area (close by Ikea)...I have no idea what to expect. Is it mostly clothes or toys??? I would be missing out on our usual activities to go to the event...so if it's not that great I'd rather just keep our scheduled activities. Any other moms in the Seattle area planning to go?

I went to the one in Issaquah before. They had everything from clothes to toys to gear. There were some great items! If you have a list of things you need, I say go!

I went to a Philly area one a few weeks ago and it was fantastic! Go as early as you can - I did the first time parent presale and there was so much good stuff - I got LO's entire summer wardrobe for $80. Tons of clothes on racks by size/gender so they were easier to go through, and so much gear and toys as well.

@wheres_c: I agree. The good gear goes at the previews. (best quality with lowest prices because each consignor sets their own prices. So bumbo seats may range from $8-$18. There is usually always plenty of clothes especially in small sizes so that is best to wait for the half price sale.

I've been to one in Portland, and I waited in a 90 minute line to pay. No joke. I hear that was a fluke, but no way in hell would I go back with a baby. That was bad enough while pregnant. I stick to smaller sales now.

@sandy: I was pregnant with my first but I don't think it'd be a problem to take a LO with you! Most of the people there had their kids with them.

@sandy: You just can't take strollers in at the pre-sales. During regular shopping hours it's okay.

I went to the Issaquah one and didn't love it. There were tons of toys and clothes and not that much gear (or maybe it had all sold out?)
The condition of toys ranged from well used (and dirty) to gently used. I guess I was expecting it to be mostly gently used and more organized. I think the organizers had maybe originally grouped similar toys together but by the time I went, toys were everywhere including tons on the floor. We weren't looking for clothes so I just peeked at the giant rack in my LOs size and didn't pick out anything.
I only managed to find 2 toys to take home. I really wanted a jumperoo but there were only 2 and they didn't look like they were in great condition. Perhaps I am not cut out for consignment shopping!

@sunny: That stinks, maybe you just hit it on the wrong day.
Here is the schedule for ours:
Wednesday - Volunteers and Consigners shop in the evening before the general public. A lot of the good gear and big toys go this first night. There is usually a selection of newer quality items at good prices (50-70% off retail). Stuff is the most organized because it just opened up but lines are often long. No way I will take my kid.
Thursday - General public - Still a good selection, pretty organized. May be able to find a small selection of gear to choose from. Still a very good selection of toys, books, clothes. Wouldn't be that big of a deal to take your kid.
Friday/Saturday - General Public - Selection gets really low (especially by Saturday morning). The good stuff (high quality/low price) is gone. Stuff gets unorganized as kids and consignors throw stuff around.
Sunday - Half price sale. Hardly any toys/gear left, lots of clothes left. This is when I really try to find just any good deals but I'm not really shopping for anything specific. Very messy!

I've gone to one, but if you want to get the good stuff, you have to be a volunteer or pay to go in before the pre-sale even starts!. I went the moment the doors opened for 1st time parents (which is on day 1 but like 3 hours after the Volunteer sale begins), and by the time I got there, people were already leaving with car loads!! The selection is large, especially clothes. Gear - you'll have to go super early!
I'm in North Texas if that makes a difference.

I experienced super long lines on the first day as well! I actually foolishly thought I could stop in really quickly on my way home from work before picking up LO and realized there was no chance. Luckily they held my stuff and I came back later that evening to pay. At that point I waited about 40 minutes in line, guessing the line was more like an hour long when I first got there at the very start of the new parent presale.
