I hope you feel better soon! My friend just had hers out in Oct and said it was easy peasy!

@Dandelion: no long term effects for me. However my former roommate refused to watch how much fat she was taking in and it caused her some problems. We eat pretty lean proteins and other things that aren't super high in fat.

I had mine out in December 2007, after almost a year of misdiagnoses. Compared to the 12 months of hell that preceded it, the surgery was easy-peasy. By the time I had it out, my diet was pretty much bland chicken, rice, and applesauce, so I was thrilled with how much better I felt afterwards. A few tips I came to realize:

*I was super anxious beforehand, so I asked for and got some relaxant in my IV before I went in for surgery. This was my mother's suggestion and a genius move.

*Anesthesia makes me very sick, so I asked that they put Zofran into my IV before I woke up. It was a very good idea.

*Take it easy for a few days afterwards. Have lots of fiber/Colace on hand. I took the Vicodin for a while, but it made me super constipated. I ended up snapping it in half and taking a half with 2 Motrin after a day or so.

*ETA: bring loose pants with you for when you go home. I have 5 tiny scars, and I didn't want them rubbing on the waistband.

Honestly, I don't think recovery was that bad. I haven't had any long term effects at all, except for feeling a zillion times better. The only thing I had to do was modify my diet a bit-I don't tolerate fatty foods nearly as well as I did before I got sick, but that's all for the good. We eat many fewer processed foods now. The other thing I will say is that I can't eat at chain restaurants like Applebee's or Chili's very frequently, because they are fattier foods. If I do go there, I try to stick with something lighter, like a salad. But again, not the worst thing in the world!

i had mine out a couple of months ago. recovery was pretty easy. especially compared to c section. The only part that was harder was that i had a 16 month LO (instead of a newborn) who wanted to be held and breastfed and i was recommended not to lift anything heavy for a few weeks! I obviously didn't listen to that recommendation, but i did have help the first week which was great. the first 3 days after surgery were probably the toughest, but with each one better than the one before.

right before my surgery, my surgeon asked me what pain meds i prefer for recovery and i said anything safe for breastfeeding. he said none of the ones he was going to suggest were safe and so i said that i had advil and tylenol after my c section and he laughed so much it made me laugh. He laughed because he said "if you got by with advil and tylenol after after a c section, then this will be a walk in the park!"

My recovery was pretty simple - the process was a bit tramatic however.

We rushed to the emergency room b/c I had extreme stabbing pain - turns out a gall stone was trying to escape. So the next morning they removed my gall bladder - however the stone did escape and was blocking my stomach or something so a day later I had to have another procedure endosomethingorother - where they went in orally to remove the stone. Once this was done I felt great - before that I couldn't keep anything down because of the stone.
